My Second Round of the 2020 Daily Chess Championship
It’s been some time since I last posted, haven’t had that much time lately. This is my blog post for the second round of the Daily Chess Championship. Reflection time is 1 day/move, and 22 simultaneous games. I am playing in group number 6, and the crosstable is shown below:
I obviously didn't expect to make it to Round 3 with such a tough group, but nor did I want to either to be honest. My only goal was to finish top 5, and score 15 points.
My games against #11 Cheessssman (1712)
It doesn’t really make sense showing my “games” against Dr_Dos, considering he timed out on all his games on the first move. Here is my first game against Cheessssman, as Black.
My games against #10 tg369 (1220)
Well, you have to say a 1200 drawing a 2000 and splitting games with a 1600 to advance to Round 2 is impressive.
Here is my first game against tg369:
Here is my second game against him:
My games against #9 younes2020 (1600)
Due to my very tough group, my only thought during these games were that I can't lose if I want to finish top 5.

My games against #8 acoaleksandara (1787)
I had the same thought when I was playing these games: that I can’t lose if I want to finish top 5.
Here is my first game, which ended in a fun mating pattern:
Here is my second game against him, where he timed out when I had mate in a few moves:
My games against #7 iliya_x (1715)
Both were very tough games against an evenly matched opponent.
Here is the first game, which was very close, until my opponent blundered:
This was also a very tough game, until neither of us had an advantage, so we settled for a draw.
My games against #6 FredPhillips (1868)
Both my games against him were terribly played by me, I had a good advantage in the first one, and completely blundered it away, but unfortunately he timed out in a winning position, this was a “win” I did not deserve.
In my second game against him, I lost in 24 moves.
My games against #5 NM FearNoEvil12 (1970)
Both games should have been wins; I was winning in the final position for the first game, but when I was playing, I didn’t find a win, and took the draw.
In our second game, I also couldn’t convert my advantage, and it ended in a draw. At least the final position is a draw though...
My games against #4 Eudinbv (1965)
I definitely got lucky in the first game, because he blundered early on.
Our second game was mostly even, I never had that much of an advantage.
My games against #3 BRODCAMS1976 (1865)
I got a nice attack in our first game, and he couldn’t really recover from it.
I had a winning endgame in our second game, but I forgot to make my move before going to bed, and by the time I woke up, I had already timed out...
My games against #1 GM Andrei_Belozerov (2341)
He actually timed out in the first game against me, but it didn't hurt his chances for advancing because he didn't time out against anyone else. He almost timed out the day before, but he moved with less than 30 minutes on his clock...
Here is my second game against him. This is easily my best game of the tournament, and maybe one of my most favorite of all time.
