I have created a halloween gambit opening book for Fritz! This is a pretty deep book with 100 human games, 200 engine games, and a lot of lines from the halloween gambit newsletter. I would like to play some games with people (with me using Fritz) to fine tune this book. Also, if anyone wants the book, just give me your email and I'll send you a link (i can't post links here or else they get removed). Note: This book is in .ctg format. Disclaimer: If you use this book, I cannot guarantee your safety!

Hello Team, I have challenged the Vote Chess Masters team to a rematch with our team playing White. They are clearly the best team we have played to date and the last game with them was very interesting. We will miss Prawn but if we work together I'm sure we can put up a tough fight, especially with the white pieces. I will let you know if they accept the challenge.
Anyone knows what happens with PrawnEatsPrawns?

I've had the following component on bookmark for about three months. I've watched the price tumble from £179.99 to £99.98 and could resist no more: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-111-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1389 Here's what they looked like on arrival: (6 x 4GB = 24GB of 1600MHz RAM) A simple matter to change the six DIMMs and I was away. After a few Blue Screens Of Death, I arrived at the following stable overclock: CPU: 4.25 GHz Memory: 1704 MHz I wasn't sure what gains I'd get but my expectations have been exceeded. A 16GB Hash table means that the engine hits high depth considerably quicker: Depth 27 completed at 84% of hash

Hi all, and thank you for letting me join this exciting group! I have a question. I've read that some not-so-highly rated players (without the engine) are doing very well in advanced chess. Does anyone know the names of some of these people? Thanks!
I bought a new laptop, and I seem to have a problem with opening an engine. I have Houdini 1.5, and every time I switch it on to analyse a more complicated position, everything hangs, and when I open Windows task manager, it shows 99% processor use. I am forced to switch everything off. How to avoid it? I have Intel i5, 2.3 GHz so I don't think that's the problem.

I'm looking to build a new PC. Just want to swap out the motherboard and processor. What do you guys suggest for a beast to grind on chess positions? I'm thinking bang-for-buck. I dont' want to empty my bank account. 6-core AMD? 4-core Intel? 6-core Intel (seem expensive). THoughts?

How does Deep Blue's games from the 1997 match compare when analysed by today's mondern engines?

to play the white side of this in an unrated engine game, I prefer2 or 3 days per move:

Readers should run their engines for the following position and give an evaluation:

Dear Group Member, we live in times of great advancement in computer chess and yet this group is quiet. Surely, we should be exchanging ideas and helping each other. I have skills and I'm sure that all of you do too. So, here's the gag: What could we do in this group to "get it going?" Please post your ideas below.
I have a really interesting game going with Cofail (Him Houdini, White, Me Stockfish, Black) where I wanted to test the Steinitz Variation of the Scotch against a strong engine. http://www.chess.com/echess/game.html?id=44757202 White never lost the advantage, even got up to about 1.7 or so at a point. But, now in an unbalanced material ending, Black has built a little fortress, and White's task seems difficult. Interestingly, for the past few moves, Stockfish evaluates the position between 1.1 and 1.2. But that's not all, it gives exactly the same score for about the top 5-8 alternatives, almost any non-losing move scores that. For example, for Black's 62nd move, I have 6 moves evaluated at exactly 1.09. Is this a sign that Stockfish thinks White cannot make progress, and the game is headed for a draw? I know it's a game in progress, but seeing it's an unrated engine game. I don't think the normal rules apply.
