At some point in almost every game now, I get a message "Connecting" or "Disconnected...". Sometimes after a while, I get a message "Server restart, 30 seconds have been added to your clocks.". If it happens shortly before time ends though, it seems like I'm just losing the game. Is it just me? Anything I can do about this?

You are invited to play for fun (and some usd ) the fifth edition of our now traditional arena of Paradigm Chess 30. It is sponsored by Lourenzo Van Niekerk and DDG Health &Beauty.Previous editions were won by south African players. Will it be the same this time? Come and help the rest of the world to win at least one time the award as best of the month playing the Paradigm variant. The displacement of the Dragon Bishops is what makes this variant unique: unlike the ArcBishop of variants like Gothic chess or XXL chess, Dragon Bishops aren't just the result of the combined movements of Knight and Bishop: these pieces don't jump! That's why sometimes they can be blocked as "Knights". I invited you to discover by yourself what I mean .

Hello! I have made a variant of 4PC that I want everyone to enjoy and play it rated! Now, the name of it is Crowded Castles (As you can tell by the name). This is what it looks like: (I had someone else take the picture, sorry.) So, as you can see, the time control is 1:00 with an increment of 7 secs, It's takeover, that's if you checkmate the king you get all his pieces, it's also capture the king, so that makes it so that you must capture the king to get his pieces. Another thing is that it's spectator chat, so the spectators can talk to the players, the last thing is that it's king of the hill! If you reach the center with your king you win! That's all! Hope the admins like it and put it up! Also tell me here, if you personally like it, now, have a good day! Edit: It also can only promote to rook on the 4th rank.

... and a lot of it was about promoting ideas to do with Chess variants. So I thought I'd share the main ideas of what I submitted here. Also, I love Chess, but given the opportunity there's nowhere else in Chess I'd rather be than right here in the Variants community. - Eldar for Chess President 2028 >:] Profile Page Most of what I have came up with revolves around the idea of making Chess.com easier to operate as a Social platform. This is what I miss most about OTB so I tried to incorperate some of the better aspects of social media into the ideas and designs for my submission (not the scary data stealing, propaganda, dictator propping aspects that some social media platforms seem to be adopting). I've introduced the idea of a "Feed" for a flow of information that works similar to the stream on Facebook but that you don't necessarily need to get notifications for. They feature aspects of a friend (or followed person) that a person is subscribed to including posts that others can reply to specifically or even react to with emojis. On the Profile page one can link up their other social media profiles, produce a longer profile introduction (I forgot to include an "About" tab), only the top 3 stats (as selected by the user) are initially displayed on the profile page to others and you can also access a users "Album" which is a selection of pictures or games a user particularly wants to share. Naturally, the stats on the page can allow for the choice of all variant stats, the games and archives display variant games as well and if someone is titled in 4pc then this is displayed along with the other banners that are typically found on a profile page. Variants Tab I came up with a whole system of Sidebar mapping including whacking Puzzles and vote chess in the Play section, putting many things in the Learn category like drills and endgames and created a "World" category to encapsulate the greater Chess community (thing's like Chess TV, News, articles etc.). A feature of the Sidebar was to include the idea that the "New Game" button would be customisable so a user could input exactly what preferences they wanted for their most commonly played game (including Variant games). One of the biggest highlights of course was the feature of a Variant Category I included which includes subcategories enabling users to quickly access the Variants server, the Variants club, the main variant games and... Variant articles and Variant Puzzles. Variant Articles to read and learn about the progression of Variants and Variant Puzzles for... um... now what was it? I don't remember what I designed a Variant Puzzles page for... As well as this I have also introduced the idea that Chess.com could expand into other areas of the Turn-Based-Strategy game market by suggesting the inclusion of games like Checkers, Reversi and Go. Text Editor - Allow Print Screens to be pasted into the editor (it doesn't for me >:I).- Improve Smileys, include variant smileys and pieces that can be used for variant notation.- Have an option that stops the Editor from forcing smileys (seriously annoying).- Have an "Insert Variant" option that enables users to analyse or make puzzles for variant games.- All posts including forum ones should enable users to react with emojis. Error Screen The Error Screen should be Snakes and Ladders. Custom Flair Let premium members customise their flair and let non-premium mebers obtain flair by joining certain clubs (that have enough members). Choose name colour Better English There are a lot of grammatical errors in the text... (>:I) My suggestion is to allow for other English speakers to be represented and allow alternative date formattings to be chosen. Collectively the idiosyncrasies as featured in the spoken and written English of Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the English speaking world, apart from the U.S, are significantly more common than the formalities as associated with the deliberate deviation from the English language that was taken and promoted by Noah Webster in 1828. Rather, the lack of representation for the vast majority of English speakers in this world is really only indicative of a preference for some persons to negate the voice of the majority in favour of American pontification. It is an outrage I tell you... an outrage >:I Laxer rules on colloquialisms Word's like the "A" word commonly used to refer to a donkey shouldn't be censored. Nor should private messages be censored. If a message in a post is not sent because it breaks community guidelines, the default should be that the message is not deleted within the text editor... It's a real pain in the donkey when you've spent ages producing a post or message just to have it deleted because of linguistic pendanticness in favour of (let's face it) a pretty darn stupid custom (seriously though, what even is a swear word?). If someone is that offended by a phonetical utterance or scribbles representing a word, then perhaps they should be using chesskid.com and teaching their kid that free speech is only something to be practiced when you are within a particular class of people and have money because you've inheritted the fruits from the aftermath of systemic slavery and classism (RISE WITH ME COMRADES >:0 ). Clubs I came up with a few ideas for clubs... - Clubs should be able to be categorised or classed as variant clubs for directory search ups.- Clubs should be able to be categorised as physical clubs so a directory can be made for those looking to join OTB communities.- If a club doesn't hold events or do live tournaments, this shouldn't appear in the sidebar.- Remove the Top Gifters page link from the sidebar - I don't want everyone knowing I'm a stingy donkey.- Allow some threads to be viewable (or only commentable) by Admins and coordinators (or just admins).- Allow sticky/pinned threads to be organised and rearranged by admins according to their preferences (and not auto-jump to the top of the forum page just because someone commented).- Allow SuperAdmins to create their own forum categories (that look similar to the Post/Chat/Activity/Info tabs from the Clubs front page).- Include social media bar if the club chooses to represent themselves on other social media platforms.- Allow clubs (especially Variant clubs) to have variant matches against other clubs.- The main "clubs" page should be dedicated to finding new clubs with a sidebar indicating trending clubs. The algorithm for the "activity indicator" should be re-evaluated to indicate what percentage of members visited the club over the previous 30 days. Club perks If a club reaches a certain number of members then they are allowed to have certain perks such as: The ability to give out Trophies to members that win Internal competitions. Custom flair for club members (including non-premium members). Custom Emojis. Ability to get written about in Chess News when they reach 10,000 members (provided they are not a club associated with anything commercial). More Variant Stuff... - Variant Thursdays and Four Player Fridays on Chess TV.- More Variant based achievements.- 8 Player Chess ;D- Have a hub where members can literally create their own variants with their own custom fairy pieces, their own size of board and whole bunch of other variable mechanics that can enable the creation of thousands of TBS games. They can then submit these variations/games to a "Variation Bank" where they can be accessed by others and Variant Clubs can feature a specific game within their club so others can access and play it quickly for their own leagues and tournaments around this home-grown variant. A new chess variant has been created! The game is exciting and dynamic: you need to raise the sergeant to general and occupy the center with them, checkmating the remaining players, or just checkmate the opponents. When you checkmate a player, his army will become yours. Play it and rate it, I ask you to write links to the games played here. Link to the game with bots: https://www.chess.com/variants/custom/game/31177404 Here's what the option itself looks like:

In the ancient variant, known as Tamerlane Chess there were special squares that came off the main board known as citadels, in which if a king made it into an enemy citadel it could declare a draw. Only a king was allowed to enter a citadel. For instance in this position, of Tamerlane Chess white could declare a draw as the white king would be in blacks citadel. I think for custom variants there should be an option to place citadels, in which if a royal piece moves into an enemy citadel the game immediately ends with the same result as if 3 fold repetition or 50 the move rule happened. In Tamerlane Chess stalemate was a loss for the stalemated player, so I think having a king enter a citadel should be treated more like 3 fold repetition or the 50 move rule than like stalemate.

Are there any resources concerning chaturanga strategy? So far I have found one record of an old game, posted on here some time ago: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/game-showcase/the-second-oldest-chess-shatranj-game-registered-recorded The game is instructive, as it shows good positioning of the weakest piece - the alfil. White manages to control two best squares for that piece: f5 and c5. His initial strategy is a quick attack on f5 - a square where a pawn break is the easiest to pull off, as it can be controlled by white alfil, and is inaccessible for a black one. I must admit that usually I cannot pull this off, so I tend to expand with the c pawn instead, which leads to a slower game. One other setup I found useful is a pawn triangle c3-d4-e3, knights on f3 and d2, firzan on d3 covering central light squares and playing for e3-e4. Another one: pawns on b3, c4 and d3, Nc3, and if Black knight is on f6, then Ne4 might be interesting, as the exchange on e4 creates doubled pawns that give nice central control. Please post Your favourite ideas!

One of the main arguments I've seen against last man standing is that in a multi player game two players that trade material both lose the material compared to the other players and so in the case of last man standing each player would tend to only develop enough to get a good defensive position and wait for the other players to slowly weaken, but since all players would use this approach nothing much would happen and the game would be very boring. In the case of crazyhouse two players that trade pieces do not mutually lose material compared to other players as captured material does not die but instead goes into the pocket of the one who captured it to later be placed back on the board. Intuitively this makes it seem like in a Crazy 4pc game players might be very active even with Last Man Standing as they wouldn't need to worry as much about losing material from trades. So I wonder if this would make Last Man Standing more viable in Crazy 4pc than in regular 4pc.

https://www.chess.com/club/giveaway-club Hello everyone, here is the official chess.com Giveaway community. Come to talk Giveaway, hangout or post a game .
I wonder how much material I need to have to checkmate the bare king. KR v K is a 100% draw (or not?). What about KQ v K, KRQ v K, KBBR v K and the other odds? Post your thoughts/analysis. Maybe bare piece rule needs to be added to duck chess?

Hey, I was playing a Fog of Setup 31 position compliments to @Green_Sleeves and I was wondering if anyone with Fog of War or Setup chess experience had some tips on how my opponent and I played. I'll walk you through my thought process for some of my moves. I'll link the game here too: https://www.chess.com/variants/custom/game/30202903/2098/3 (You may want to scroll to the beginning of the game) My opponent was white and played 1.r @Ba3: a pretty overused opening but hard to refute, so I tried to put my opponent in an uncomfortable situation and go out of book by responding with 1.y @Bd6!?. This line definitely is considered rogue but I believe it has some untapped potential, and in its unexplored state, makes for a very sharp and interesting game. This got my opponent thinking for a while, but he did manage to fine the best continuation, 2.r @Bh3, applying pressure to the d7 pawn. Our next couple of moves were normal, and then I decided to surprise my opponent with 3.y D, which is a hard line to win, but my plan was to take advantage of the psychological element that this move had to offer. However, my opponent showed resilience to my tricks and played 4.r D: The draw countergambit. I was slightly caught off guard, but I was not going to let my opponent do what I wanted to do to him. We tried this move a couple times within the duration of this match, but my opponent must have been worried about repeating too many times, so he switched it up with 1006.r @Be3. We made a couple more normal developing moves, and then my opponent made (what I consider is) the first blunder. 1014.r P is frankly an awful move that lets me finish development before he can start an attacking idea. Nevertheless, I wasn't able to capitalize on it well and the position equalized quickly. A few exchanges later my opponent slips up again and plays the inaccuracy 1023.r Bxe6+?!: a rather hasty move that breaks the symmetry of the position and could have been saved for later when I was not in check. This time, I found the correct reply to this move, 1023.y fxe6, 1024.r Be5, 1024.y Bxe3+!!, 1025.r fxe3, 1025.y Be4, regaining symmetry and putting my opponent in zugzwang. A few symmetrical moves later, we finally reached a draw from insufficient material after 1049.y Kxc7. I'm eager to hear opinions, and always looking for move suggestions!, Do you see a point in this game where I could have converted better? Let me know.

Chess variant where the role of the king and knight is exchanged: players win by checkmating the knight, and the kings are regular pieces subject to capture. Royal knight: Starts on the field of the king. It moves like a knight, but the check-rule applies to it like to a king: it cannot move into check, it has to move out from check, and if it cannot escape from check, it is an immediate loss of the game (checkmate). Commoner: They start on the fields of the knights. They move like the king, but the check-rule does not apply to them, i.e. they can be captured like any other piece. Otherwise the rules of chess apply, with the following differences: Castling with the (royal) knight works in the same way as with the king in chess. Pawns can promote to commoner, but not to knight. Basic matesThe following table shows which pieces or piece combinations can checkmate the lone knight. The queen can checkmate the knight on its own, but neither of the other pieces can (not even with the support of the knight). However, any two pieces (besides the knight) can checkmate (except the very rare case of two bishops on the same field colour). Knight: Draw Knight Queen: Win Knight Rook: Draw Knight Commoner: Draw Knight Bishop: Draw Knight RR: Win Knight RC (Rook, Commoner): Win Knight CC: Win Knight RB: Win Knight CB: Win Knight BB: Win Examples of checkmated knight

I was playing a game of crazy custom position, and forgot to turn off the game of points for 2 player https://www.chess.com/variants/custom/game/29983467/124/1 We both tried to go for a draw by repetition involving a combination of draws and piece captures, however since each time we captured a piece the number of points we had would go up so that repeating the same position on the board wouldn't count towards 3 fold repetition as the total number of points wouldn't repeat. It was also clear that the 50 move rule wouldn't end the game as pieces would get captured every few moves. The fact that we would both get points when capturing a bishop would mean that the relative number of points we would each have would tend to just oscillate, so neither of us would actually make progress. I think it should be changed so that crazyhouse game of points can't go on forever as seems to now be possible.
