May I suggest coating a wooden set with goose fat

Yeah, it's humor.  Well it very well might not be good humor, but it's still humor nonetheless...

By the way, cgrau, I will be happy to provide you with my home address so you can send the above pictured set to me Cool

You do know that you have at least 3 sets you have pictured for us here in the last few months or so that I really like.  The above pictured Lardy really looks nice.

And a lot of Lardy sets can look not so nice.  There's a fellow in our club that came up to me about a month ago with a Lardy set he bought new in Kansas City back in 1986.  He had not played with it more than 3 or 4 times in total.  The wood and finish looked great.  However one of the Kings or Queens had a definite warp and thereby tilt to it when sitting on the board.

Thanks, Ron. The Black Queen in this set is warped some. It just comes with the Lardy territory.

Hey cgrau, did you find that Lardy?

I, myself, am enjoying the search-for-originals bug.

Many times over, Up. Here's one that Fischer played on during his May 1964 simul in Indianapolis.

Ah, yes.

Ah, yes.

Up, I got this set on Etsy.

EBay is still the best bet. I was bidding on a Lardy set made for Lowes a few weeks ago, it was mint in the box like no one ever opened it, it was amazing. I wasn't on when the auction ended and it only went for about $70.00 or so.  It even came with a special case. Was 100% genuine Lardy.

I know I'm coming to this a few years late, but I bet you're kicking yourself now about missing that mint Lardy for $70. Wow - what a steal!!!
