Other games in-progress include:

On September 28, @JunyJunebug wins against @evert823, defending his title as World Champion!

Also September 28, @vickalan wins a game against @Supersam1, in a 64 move game!

The following players have won "level-2" games, and are qualified to challenge JunyJunebug for the crown:
@Martin0
@vickalan
blitz.pngMartin0, if he likes, can make a challenge first because he has the higher score.blitz.png

In other news, SuperSam1 is playing @farmer2013 in a game currently at 51 moves. But farmer2013 has been away for three days, and has been issued a time warning. Game is being watched to see if he will show up in time to avoid being a "No-show" and forfeiting the game!!!

Last, bets are being placed on the Chess.com Computer Chess Championship Tournament!

I will gladly challenge @JunyJunebug for his crown. happy.png

blitz.pngYay!blitz.png a new game between World Champion and Top Contender! I usually like to see a short break between games. Is it ok (JunyJunebug and Martin0) if I start a thread for this contest on Wednesday (10/4/2017)?

Martin0

Yeah, apparently it is my 100 % score (1/1) after winning with the lumberjack. If you look for players with over 50% win rate and not already played for the crown there just were not many players to choose from.

I think vickalan deserved the spot more than me, but he wanted someone else to go first, so here I am.

I appreciate you informing me - I want this info to be correct.happy.png

Has Martin0 won the rights after beating me in lumberjack? In that case, I accept .

Yes, the rules are (here - sheet 2) which I posted some time ago, but probably now hard to find.  Basically anyone with a "level-2" win (means they have won at least one game against an opponent who also has a win).

Then the player with highest score has priority to challenge first. Also, if a player previously played the champion but lost, he can challenge again only if his score has improved.

Currently only Martin0, and I are qualified contenders. Martin0 only played one game, but it was against Juny, so he has first priority. If evert wins a game against anyone (improves his score) then he can challenge again.

I am definitely going to watch the next game, and the will play against the winner.

Btw, crown-holders who are defeated can always try to win it again. I believe boxing legend Muhammad Ali was a three-time heavyweight champion, earning the crown three times separately in 1964, 1974, and 1978.

There might be a battle between the three of us (and others?) to see who is really the best and who can keep the crown! But @JunyJunebug is the World Champion now so is the guy to beat!!😈

I'll plan to start a thread Wednesday for "JunyJunebug vs. Martin0", unless you want to start a little later. Just let me know if you prefer a different start date.😊

Martin0

Those rules were indeed hard to find... But nevertheless, good to know!

I was just second guessing about reasons to be a contender for the crown. I certainly agree that previous crown holders should be able to challenge again eventually. Just thought others would have more priority. Again, just second guessing.

The start date is fine with me.

Martin0 won one game against JunyJunebug, but it was an exhibition game, not a formal challenge. Exhibition games still affect a player's score, but aren't for the crown. The challenge game is (here).happy.png

@Martin0 is the new bulldog world champion, after defeating @JunyJunebug in a 15-move challenge game!

Also in the news:

Juny and @Huanglz are in another game (here) currently at move 26. If Juny wins, he will earn the right to play for crown again, as his score will have improved. If Huanglz wins he will earn the right to play for the crown as it will be a "level-2" win. The stakes are high!

@Donkey256 wins a game against @Menamedwert in Bulldog with Witch on October 2 (here).

I was informed that the records above are missing a game. @evert823 won a game over @foofooes February of this year. This will be added in the next update of player's scores (to be posted soon).

Congratulations to all variant chess game players for the spectacular play!

I will be starting a game soon with @JohnHS, and may soon be challenging Martin0 for the crown too!happy.png

vickalan

Game news:

1) As mentioned in recent post @Martin0 is undefeated, and is the current world champion.
2) @Donkey256 wins a bulldog game with witch, after @Menamedwert resigns at 7 moves.
3) @JunyJunebug wins a game against @huanglz. This improves Juny's score so is eligible to challenge Martin0.
4) I also updated a win by @evert823 over @foofooes (in February but I missed in previous posts).

5) @JohnHS and @vickalan recently started a game of bulldog with witch.

Update to players scores:

null

Current players eligible to challenge Martin0 for the bulldog crown are JunyJunebug and me. Neither player has challenged Martin0 yet, but I'm sure someone is bound to do so soon!happy.png

vickalan

I'll surely challenge Martin0. But I'll wait a few days before offering a challenge. I recently started two games and it will be a little more interesting to be in the mid-game for the others before starting a new game. Plus I need some "mental preparation" before I try to win the crown from Martin.😆

vickalan

Martin0 made a chart of player elo scores for bulldog-type games. I thought about doing it before, but I'm not good with these types of equations and writing worksheet scripts.frustrated.png

But Martin0 did it! These scores are more meaningful than what I post, because it takes the strength of opponents into account. (winning over strong opponents will pull your score up more than winning over unproven new players). Chart is here:

null

If interested the calculations are here: (link to Martin0 worksheet) (see tab 4 for chart)

Evert's dominance for many months is interesting - but then was defeated in the 8-way tournament. Juny becomes the first bulldog crown wearer, but Martin0's win over Juny creates a stunning rise in the elo chart!!!

For an elo chart of "normal" chess see this YouTube video: YouTube History of chess

Well, our world of variant game is small but growing I think. Who's going to be our future champions???happy.png
