Celeberity. exactly the way you described it.
Seblebrity doncha mean! Yep, you and many others.

The "What About X," exception guy.
This person, who makes up the vast majority of online posters on this site asserts you and your post are clearly wrong, based on a single (largely) pinheaded exception that he deigns to provide.
In Classical Rhetoric it's a (pinheaded) method of arguing, where you grab one loose thread in a sweater, and insist all will unravel, if you only pull hard enough.
These folks are EVERYWHERE in these nutty forums.
Presently company excluded, of course.

Good one! I'll add it with minimal changes becuase it's well writen. Thnaks zborg!
Speaking as a (not so) New Guy (with professorial tendencies):
I'm missing the Underage Diva. He's aged 12-15, rated around 1400-1500, whups the older guys at his school at chess, and is convinced he's going to be at least an IM in a few years. His self-confidence knows no bounds, and he posts numerous threads (alternatively: "lessons") charting his progress, his incredible tactical ability, or his in-depth theoretical knowledge of openings. He is the proverbial duck's back to the many droplets of well-founded criticism which he invites, and his main aim is simply to put himself in the limelight and to become a serious celebrity.

I would insist O:-) to add the under-900 (plays sick openings 2.qf3 and likes pizza. tends to be pacific) http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/what-is-the-tipical-food-of-the-under-900s
and the 5-cents ( puts his 5 cents, no matter his knowledge, no matter the relevance of his comment , not even focused on the topic - he must put his 5-cents, its like his duty )
Alight, I like the under 900 idea! I feel like the 5cent is too close to the resident?
Or some senile professors...

The nemesis of the politician and professor...
...considering am a part time, *resident political professor, those guys are my least favorite kind of troll, especially depending on what string they try to pull...it is usually a twisting one of some sort, with a particular bad job of acting naively abou their intentions, wrapped in a cover of jokes that he thinks should only be taken seriously, on his terms...
* - not to be confused with the resident professing politicians

~ the ghost
enters a thread out of nowhere, lays a smackdown, then sneaks away allowing the victims to lick their wounds, refusing to stay for a lasting engagement, content to speak their mind and leaving it be
like it

A suggestion that could go under "The hater" or a seperate category. The "E-Thug" The guys that never says anything positive, bad mouths everyone, throws out f-bombs, LOL, etc. all while sitting safely behind a monitor.

I have one: The Rampant Chess.com booster (I don't have a cool name for them sorry). But these are the guys that in just about every thread make chess.com seem like the greatest site ever, and how honored they are to be members...something along the lines of "That $99 membership was the best money I ever spent in my life, and I can't believe its so cheap!! I would easily pay $1,000 a year! Just think! Unlimited tactical trainer problems!!"
I love those guys.... :D
What stereotype do I fit into?

I say good things about the site, almost infomercial-like. Can I get another years membership free Erik?

a rampant chess.com booster would just piss me off too much.
why do you let other people's beliefs or opinions upset you? you can be in control of your own mind. be strong. don't be controlled by what others say or think.

1 more!
The clueless/Ignorant...you know the member. Signs up, doesnt read the TOS, gets his account closed, and its not his fault!

Totally Erik is one of a kind! IDK Eric, I would have to say reisident I guess. But you dont post often, you're like a celebrity too! Then again, like the admin I always see a double take when you post! What would you say?
Well, what I was thinking was people who bump really old threads (dead threads) for no apparent reason.
are you reffering to me?
I think he's talking about chessdex, and they are called necromancers because they attempt to bring dead threads to life once more.
Well, it's a type of person, there are lots of them! You just may be one though!
