Can a king capture a checking piece which would put him in check from a pinned piece?

Hi there. See picture (my opponent is playing white, I am playing black).  I wanted to put my opponent's king on h3 in check with my rook that is on a4 by moving that rook to h4 (also capturing my opponent's pawn on h4 at the same time).  However, my rook would then only have been protected by my knight on g6, which is pinned, protecting my king from white's rook on g2.  My question is, if I made that move, could I lose my rook?  Could the king take my rook even though he would technically be putting himself in check from my pinned knight?  Thanks!  PS - I already decided against it, because I wasn't sure, so I'm just curious in case I come across this scenario again some time.

Pinned pieces still attack/defend squares/pieces so if you took the pawn the king can't take the rook as that would be stepping into check which is not allowed.

Thank you so much!  If I ever come across a similar situation I will remember that!  Cheers.  happy.png
