Early Queen Sacrifice Leads to Amazing Victory

This is a Live Chess game I played yesterday, as black. I sacrificed my queen on move 6, returned to material equality on move 20, and had my opponent resign on move 36.

I believe that my early queen sacrifice was not only dangerous, but also greatly unjustified. Since this was a Live game, it is understandable that my opponent may have also made some mistakes that led to my recovery and victory.

I want to thank my opponent sukhminderpal for permission to post this game (and to gloat about how my sacrifice somehow worked). Although I am proud that I managed to salvage my victory, I would still greatly appreciate analysis of where I could have played better (and where my opponent could have played better).
Thanks in advance for your help!
EDIT: It's been determined that the sacrifice is 100% unsound. Any comments on the middlegame and endgame would be useful. Thanks!

Hehe, that was really interesting. Thought im pretty sure that your win was secured mostly due to your opponent blundering ;) Did you do a computer analysis? In that case - how many mistakes and blunders did you opponent mistake?

But i gotta say, really nice game :)

Fun game, StairwayToTruth!

Glad you won the game, you preservered. Although it is not recommmended in the future that you 'sacrifice' your queen for peice by move six.

I didn't yet use computer analysis. I'll actually go for that as soon as I finish writing this comment. :)

Plus, the only reason I tried this crazy sacrifice is because my pieces were surrounding important spots on the kingside. I would definitely not do this in an OTB game (unless I really knew it would pay off).

Update: according to the computer, we both made incredibly huge mistakes (something I do not disagree with). But I think the computer may have been wrong in suggesting that 16. ... Nxd4 was a blunder; in fact, I believe that was the move that may have saved my game.

Would any stronger (in particular, titled) members want to see through this game?

One piece of information I missed: it was a 30 0 game; my opponent ended with 21 minutes, and I with 15. Maybe that would put things in better perspective. :)

sorry friend, but after Ng4 black is completely lost.

you are lucky that white didnt play 9.Qxf7+! where you would have soon had to resign.

but still, it was a fun game, fight to the end!

9...Kxd8

In the heat of the moment, I just went on playing with anything I could think of, as did my opponent (who clearly made more mistakes than did I). The challenge was priceless. :)

But any comments on the activity after move 9 then?

Correct me if I'm wrong,  but I thInk instead of 8.Qf3, 8.Bh4 is a win for White due to material advantage and the King is not really in danger of being mated.

Avatar of StairwayToTruth

oromarcelo, yes - White would be up by a minor piece. However, he wanted to try to protect his queen and be up by the value of a rook and pawn. It led to his demise, and there is no way he could've predicted the course of this game, and neither could I. :)

Nevertheless, he would've won with 9. Qxf7+, as Krumba suggested.

I enjoyed watching your middlegame-it was absolutely fascinating!

I like how the game looked around move 11, I would say your queen sacrifice allowed you to complete your development while cramping up white's queenside- especially love how impotent white's queen suddenly looks while your knight on f2 simultaneously immobilized the rook and prevented the king from castling.

Aside from the obvious blunders, white could probably have given back material at some point to castle queenside, after which it would be harder to equalize. Even as late as move 13, Qxf2 would have left white a minor piece up.

Nd4 is a very powerful spot for black. I just had a great game where Nd4 was pretty much the winner.

what is wrong with 29. ...e2+ 30. Bxf2 Nxf2? Maybe what you did is better...

Avatar of ArchBadger

fireworks, the bishop would capture, and in turn be captured by the knight.

Avatar of StairwayToTruth

Archbadger, as explained in post #21, this helped me secure a pawn at e2 - and that seems like a win to me! :)

However, I needed more commentary on the mistakes made in the middlegame. I somehow feel that I missed quiet a few things after my recovery after move 20 (the chess.com computer deemed me equal at move 26 or so).

STT, what you did is better, it was just an alternative. By the way, post #21 was one of my posts...

Didn't look at the username there. What a weird contradiction / black hole you've created. :D

the idea that you "equalized" material at move 20 is silly.
