is clash royal better than chess?

There are literally three viable deck archetypes in clash royale - graveyard cycle, miner poison and mega knight hog rider. Log bait is solid, but you can’t expect to win against anyone with goblin barrel being your only offensive card, which is checked by two of the most viable cards in the game, lavaloon is too double-edged and is hard checked by inferno dragon, inferno tower and even the new hunter, and beatdown decks are destroyed by inferno tower, pekka or even just a counter attack. In chess there is so much more you can do and it is much more skill based. An decent player could probably beat even surgical goblin if he had an advantageous deck matchup and it does not take much knowledge and practice to be good at the game, while a 2000 would hardly ever beat a grandmaster and there is no such thing as a pre-determined advantage in chess.
However, I do not think the two should be compared. They have entirely different mechanics, chess being a turn based board game and
clash royale not. I would say chess functions better as a competitive game, while clash royale is much better as a video game - something to do for fun.
Chess makes much more sense.

Comparatively speaking, modern chess has been in existence a 100 times longer than Clash Roayle.

HAHAHA!!!
Being the best clash royale player means a high chance of winning lots of money in tournaments.
Questions like these are pointless cuz there are diehard Clash royal fans and diehard chess fans. It's up to taste.
Obviously the games are different so you can compare them only up to a certain point, for instance in chess you will always start with the same position and timing is not really important...
TBH I only played COC but I assume that clash royal is rather similar, if that the case I believe that Clash royale complexity is understimated although for practical pourpose there are less general principles to be applyed and therefor less real strategical options.
