Seen this more often in scholastic tournaments with kids whose entire grand strategy for chess is to aim for f7/f2 and make a kill-shot.
Not looking at your opponent's checks before you move is far more tragic than funny.

I did this once as a highschool freshman against the chess club advisor. Never made that mistake again. =)
