At 11th is So at 2739 actually.

DreamscapeHorizons

Why are there players under 2200 in the event? In the open rapid list of players there are 12 under 2200 with the lowest one at 1704. In the open blitz there's an unrated! On the womens side the lowest rating is 1605 for the blitz. smh.......

Update: I just looked up FIDE's requirements for players to get in this event. Those low rated players won a national title in at least one of the time formats. That just goes to show how slack and goofy some national championships are.

DreamscapeHorizons

How many games for the elimination matches?

SymphonicKnight

If chesscom rapid ratings were used instead for seedings, it would be 1 Carlsen 2906, 2 Firouzja 2870, 3 MVL 2852, 4 Nepo 2827, 5 So 2826, 6 Caruana 2823, 7 Aronian 2818, 8 Lazavik 2780, 9 Nakamura 2769, 10 Wei Yi 2740, 11 Duda 2739, 12 Mamedyarov 2732, 13 Erigaisi 2719, 14 Grischuk 2714, of players rated 2700+ on chesscom in rapid. I realize, however, that otb play may be very different from online play in player' visualization and timing.

SymphonicKnight

This is not an elimination match tournament, @DreamscapeHorizons, but as for lower rated players being entered, this is a an international Fide event, and some players qualified by national tournaments, lowly as they might seem, and some by invitation.

SymphonicKnight

Theoretically a 13 round tournament can find a single winner if there are no more than 8,192 players. There will be a single leader, if undefeated, by round 8 here, so we should expect Top 12 matchups by Round 6.

@Chessian-Ian The very obvious meaning is that I commented first. You're welcome.

wheres pragg?

@paramdham15 this is for people from the USA only. btw if pragg and the other champions were there, this would be a world match happy.png

I'm disappointed that neither Gukesh nor Ding Liren will participate.

My bet is on Alireza. It will all depend on which Alireza show up. When he is really hungry, he can beat anybody including Magnus Carlsen.

In the blitz event there's an elimination bracket for the top 8 players after they're picked from the first day.

I still don't see any information about how many games the elimination matches will be.

Hi there! The knockout stage will feature four-game matches with 3+2 time control.

Thanks. 4 games ain't much. With such short mini matches they should make the bracket double elimination.

182! I hope everyone performs great

what dose 182 stand for?

Amount of players playing in the FIDE thing

This "182" also means "I hate you" but I'm talking about the amount of players here. I wouldn't go subliminally saying 182 for people I dislike.

SymphonicKnight

I find it unbelievable that they dropped the 21 game Blitz Swiss format in favor of a crapshoot mini-match format.
