Cheating during an OTB match! What an outrage. I dont believe it! Impossible! What a crock. What a troll you are REB to even post that! How dare you talk about something that can't be done. You're just looking for attention!

sound familiar, people....look in the mirror

Those caught cheating should be banned from rated play imo. Such losers shouldnt be tolerated.

Individual cheating must not be tolerated. Cheating should be done the old fashioned way, collectively. Individuals seeking to raise their ratings or win prizes by cheating should have to go through organizers and federations that cheat.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by that? I'm unversed in the recent history of chess organizations.

Chess controversies, including cheating, have happened in numerous countries. One organizer became a master by submitting false results. FIDE had rating scandals, some of which it caused, some others were reports of tournaments that did not take place. There is much more, but that should be enough to get the point about collective cheating.

I think cheating in OTB play should have a lifetime ban from cash prizes, titles, and participation in chess events.  At the very very least, if you get caught twice it's a lifetime ban, and the penalty for being caught once is a one to five year suspension, forfeiture of earnings, increased fees, and/or some other harsh penalties.  Especially as computers become so strong, fair competition must be maintained!
