Its true that it may be painful to see your rating drop after the net has disconnected you. The only solution I can think of is that disconnected players dont get a rating loss. The main point chess.com probably doesnt do that is that its very easy for people to just disconnect themselves and prevent rating loss that way. The extra 2 minutes is a disaster plan, though. I have been in many games where my opponent disconnected in suspicious lost positions. I can ensure you, waiting 3 minutes is a real pain and 5 minutes would make it even worse for the ones that can claim victory. Considering both sides, I think that this is the most balanced chess.com can get to rating and disconnecting.
Fair Play Policy is messed up!

Yeah, in Cambodia it seems like the internet goes out and comes back at the worst times. I think there should be a rating drop (either though it would hurt me) because otherwise people will abuse the option to just disconnect. I believe you should not be labeled as someone who abandons games though or punished. Many members are from poor countries with weaker internet options. I had to stop receiving online coaching because it was a constant battle to make the lessons because the internet would always go out. I see the OP point, but people would abuse the option to escape a loss if they have a chance.
I live in a place where my Wi-Fi is so bad. It keeps turning off every 40-50 minutes. And a lot of my games were cut short and I lost 15-20 games with this horrible connection. Soon Chess.com servers accused me of not abiding the Fair Play Policy and says that I kept abandoning games-which my Wi-Fi disconnected and I auto-resigned after I reconnected. This is rigged! I wish chess.com could give me extra 2 minutes before I auto-resign. I also wish that they could identify if someone lost internet connection and if someone abandoned their games. If you have followed me this far. I'm sorry that you have to read my horrible writing and I just want to vent.
