How to i leave 100 elo hell.

I just got paired against a player rated 100 in a 20-minute game. I don't mean this in a sneering way, but I didn't know it was possible to have such a low rating.

In response & to follow up to post #2, greed is good. Try to profit from any trade. Don't give anything away.

Greed is good, just like the quote from Michael Douglas in the movie Wall Street.

Strangemover

1.Don't hang your pieces.

2.Don't hang your pieces.

3.Don't hang your pieces.

4.Capture your opponents hanging pieces.

Yeah, it's possible, if you're either a sandbagger or, someone, who is generally worse than the entire chess population. I was there once (400-500 blitz), but I gradually improved (1600-1700)! happy.png

To the OP, along with everyones advice, just keep playing, and eventually you will break the 200, 300, 400 and so on.

I resigned to a 120 rated player using the h4 opening and i have never been so humiliated.

Colonizor48

In my defense my last game was probably the best game i've ever played. 0 blunders and 0 mistakes. I did accidently sacrafice my queen but it didnt count as a blunder for whatever reason and my oponent who refused to resign disconected. I'll show both games

Miniongolf

no need to feel ashamed, i've lost to the hammerschlag from a lower-rated player too (lol)

anyways, practice making sure no pieces are hanging. turn on annotations (in settings, I can show you how), play long games and draw the arrows to where each piece can go (using right-click and dragging), then right click on any undefended pieces you have and your opponent have. This will help train you to look across the board, gobble up free pieces, and defend all your pieces.

This was probably my worst game ever. Now for my best

This one has a tone of missed checkmates. But it eventually worked out. I tried to do a scholars mate but didn't know how to respond to g6

Miniongolf

@fleurania don't be so harsh

I'm not a coach, but based on my observations, the main weakness in lower-rated players is blunders. Opening prep won't help much, but being able to identify weak pieces you can take for free or keep all your pieces defended will be an invaluable skill. Even the best super-gms make blunders and hang pieces (although it's much more subtle like a pin or trapped piece), but keeping your material is the first step to improvement

Colonizor48

yeah my main flaw is i dont pay attention to pieces. But when i do i dominate these lower rated players.

Colonizor48

Anyway for this game i could have mated way earlier. For move 7 i could have done Qxf7 and it would have been over. But i didnt see my bishop would protect my queen from the king.

Miniongolf

I would say don't play scholar's mate. It can grab a free rook if your opponent falls for it, but winning with the trap won't help you improve; it's simply falsely boosting your rating which will eventually fall.

At the 1000s range, very very few people will fall for it (like 1 in 100 perhaps) and they will end up chasing your queen away while developing, so the opening can be dangerous, but is overall weak.

Instead play something more sound like the Ruy Lopez, Italian or 4-knights game (there are plenty of other good openings with 1. e4 but those are the most common).

Right now i just want to get my rating up to ~500 So players dont play moves that are so bad that they are good. Because right now the moves are so unpredictable and bad that I have no idea how to respond a lot of the time. Then learn the fried liver attack and viena gambit.

JamesColeman

There's no such things as moves that are so bad that they are good. There's also not going to be much difference between 100 and 500 as 500 is also complete beginner level. Just play some longer games, forget about any sort of strategy, openings, any of that, and purely focus on trying to make sure you don't give away free pieces, and likewise, picking up 'gifts' from your opponents.

JamesColeman

Also I would try and do a decent quantity of mate in 1 puzzles so you're at least able to internalize some of the most basic finishing patterns.

Colonizor48

allright this is the stupidest game i've ever played. My opponent could have easly won but they didnt see a simple knight move(But neither did) And let me scholar's mate them

Colonizor48

If i did that a pawn could have taken my queen.

Colonizor48

I was going for the scholar's mate. It is effective agianst low rated players.
