People Who Run Away After 1 Win

Without knowing the reason why the player is declining the rematch, I do not believe it is anyone's right to accuse them of being a disrespectful player.

siddirocks

I always decline rematches because I like to take a deeper look at the game afterwards. And playing one game right after the other is often a bad idea,

SriyoTheGreat

It is not disrespectful, there are a million reasons why 1 would decline

The only reason you send a rematch request after a decisive game is because you want to feed your ego. If you have won before, there is a sadistic touch to it. On the other hand, if you lost, you want to prove to yourself that you're not a bad player. And because I don't want to fall for that parasitic nonsense, I don't need it. I'm here for chess.

Only if the game was drawn is it even appropriate for me to send a rematch request. That's the right etiquette.

What a surprise. Here are some bad sports commenting this thread now. Instead of having an intelligent, expletive-free discussion about the topic, they throw insults to try to defend their poor sportsmanship but it's not working.

I think you chose your username to get a rise out of people.

Always refuse rematches. They are foolishness.

People who refuse to play ONE rematch are bad sports. After I win a game, I am ALWAYS happy to play AT LEAST ONE rematch if a person asks me for a rematch. But unfortunately, there are A LOT of bad sports who are not willing to show you the same courtesy. When you ask for ONE rematch, they quickly disappear like a thief in the night. They can make whatever excuses they want ("It's my right to decline a rematch" etc.) but the bottom line is, they're a bad sport and the real reason they run away from you is because they know you're a better player than them and they're afraid of losing. Any chess player who is worth his salt will never be afraid of playing ONE rematch.

I disagree. When people offer me a rematch, I give them a downvote in sportsmanship. I like to play different people and that's more than fine. It's not a mark of bad sportsmanship to play a different player. It's bad sportsmanship to demand I owe you one.

BlueHen86

I seldom rematch. I never ask for one, and I usually don't accept. That's my prerogative.

If anything, the bad sports are the people complaining on the forums that they didn't get a rematch.

why do they have to do rematch?

piedraven

I pretty much always accept rematches. I sometimes ask for one if I was winning but made a one off blunder.

But for most of us chess is a HOBBY. People have real life responsibilities. Perhaps someone didn't rematch you because they were about to go work night shift at a hospital. Or help their 6 children with homework.

The OP's response to a perceived slight is so out of proportion to the slight, that I doubt he is as chivalrous as he claims. That aside, as long as my opponent doesn't give me reason to think they are a jerk I will almost always grant a rematch request if I won as white; if I played black and won, granting a rematch depends upon whether or not I feel like playing another game.

That’s the mystery of humanity isn’t it?

So much butthurt. Maybe take up another hobby if chess aggravates you this much.

Slayer---good pic!

Thx :)
BoardMonkey

I barely had enough time for the first game.

Also a correction on the title: We’re still (most of the time) in our chairs or on the floor, car etc. We’re not “running away” we’re simply refusing to feed someone’s ego
