you should play the Scotch, Italian is easily refuted at the higher levels, while Scotch is still a deadly weapon.

What are you talking about?

This is so false that even the opposite isn't true.

I'd like to be proven false.

Since there is no refutation of the Italian, even at the higher levels, your statement is false. GMs still play the Italian.

I meant the traps and tricks in the Italian, but to be honest I really don't know much about them.

It was even played in the latest World Championship match.

Maybe we should make a distinction in the Italian between the very forcing d4 lines and the more positional d3 lines?

If you enjoy playing the scotch I don't see why you shouldn't keep going but the Italian is great I would recommend the evans gambit

Why?

I generally play the Italian. Ages ago I learned the Scotch. Everyone said how dumb I was, since the consensus was that it prematurely broke d4 in the center without preparation. But I won quite a few games with my terrible opening. Then this up-and-comer named Kasparov started playing it and suddenly everyone studied it and was ready for me. Back to the Italian.

Most likely someone else has already invented it 100 (or 200) years ago. All openings worth playing and most openings not worth playing are already known for a long time.

Which opening is better with white for my level (1500 rapid, 1600 blitz)? I already know how to play both. Or should I play them both?

Your opening choice should be based on the types of middle games you're comfortable playing. Now if youre still in the "Im experimenting" phase. Then play them all until you find the ones that work for you.
