why would you need to stop playing chess? having meds is fine with chess.

i have severe adhd, and usually simple stimulants help me focus, but this makes me have an unfair advantage against people that play with me, since i can focus way more when on medication. should i have another account that i use specifically for playing chess while on my adhd meds? or should i stop playing fully?

Two accounts is a clear rules violation.

Prescription drugs for ADHD merely help you concentrate the way those of us without ADHD can. In any case, chess does not have an anti-drug policy. I’ve had OTB opponents who step outside to smoke weed, I used tobacco in the same manner a few decades ago (I quit), and I’ve cured many a blitz slump with a glass of bourbon.

if the meds are helping give you what you need to focus......

its kind of like this: say you have a car that doesnt work how you want it to, and then you get it fixed or buy a new one, would you say "i shouldnt drive this because now i have a better advantage than i did before." ???

if the meds are helping you, you dont need to stop doing somthing because of being able to focus better, you can play with others your level, no one will mind that.

Hi 👋 I am a psychologist, when it comes to medication think of you brain as soup. People without disorder biologically have all the right neurotransmitters, or think of it as ingredients, in their soup. By taking your medication it makes sure that you have all the right ingredients to function. It is not cheating it just setting you up to have the right amount of neurotransmitters in you cortex.

Well, I think the OP is saying that he focuses better when he doesn't take his meds?

No it’s different for people with ADHD, they can hyper focused on another level, it’s almost obsessive in an unhealthy way

Then it must be emotionally driven. It sounds like obsessive-compulsive disorder. ADHD is attention-deficit hyper-active disorder. Someone who doesn't know how to calm themselves and can't keep their mind on anything. Almost like they're constantly running away from focussing on anything. I think it's possible that it CAN combine with obsessive compulsive disorder, because they're related. In one, focus is off: in the other focus is on.

Well I know I don’t have ocd but I may be wrong

That doesn't mean that a person with those disorders can necessarily focus better than someone without them, since a very high degree of focus and concentration is perfectly possible and normal in others too.

It would have a negative effect unless she was a manic personality.
