Have you felt the inspirational kiss of Siduri during your chess games?  That Eureka euphoric moment when you see the path to victory?  If so, how did you achieve it?  Please be specific because I seek more of these kisses myself!

Do you mean a winning move? Yes. I have found winning moves countless times, and so have my opponents. I usually find the winning move by calculating correctly.

Not quite... I mean... and this is a little difficult to explain... I mean that euphoric flood of dopamine and seratonin that brings you, transports you, ever so briefly, to a new plane of existence... I have played a lot of chess, and made a lot of winning moves, but have experienced "Siduri's kiss" very very rarely.  The last time it happened was last Saturday.  I had just ran 6 miles, was very dehydrated, drained 3 pints of beer in 50 minutes, and started a live 30/0 game that I knew would be viewed by many.  Around 10-15 minutes into the game, just after the opening had finished, I felt... I saw... more than just how the game would play out... I experienced something deeper... a flood of pleasure, knowledge and enlightenment that is hard to describe... for one fleeting moment... I saw the soul of chess...

Oh!Laughing That's never happened to me. So what did "the soul of chess" look like?

Here's one reference.  http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/gilgamesh/section8.rhtml

But honestly; I think a better term would be fugue or euphoria.

Very hard to describe... It's more of a feeling than a visual phenomenon... An "orgasm" of the mind that quickly disperses in a warm pleasurable wave throughout your body...  I refer to it as "Siduri's Kiss" as Siduri was the original goddess of wisdom, alcohol and merry making... and I experienced this revelation (wisdom), while rapidly drinking beer (alcohol) and playing a game of chess (merry making); although I admit there may well be a better name for it than "Siduri's kiss"... I am not too concerned with the name... I am far more interested in if others have achieved this state and how exactly I can achieve it again!  If any of you have experienced this transcendent chess state before, please let me know how you achieved it... I am open minded and willing to try almost anything to get back, however briefly, into that world...

i'd be interested to see what kind of experiences you have with chess while taking salvia divinorum. just the loose leaves. not the extract.

that's the diviner's sage, after all...

I will certainly consider trying it if I can secure it...

I can respect that this thread may soon get pushed into oblivion as more threads under Chess.com's General Discussion forum are updated...  Would, perhaps, any premium chess.com member consider starting a Chess.com "Siduri's kiss" group?  Dedicated to members wishing to share their euphoric chess experiences and how they reached that state.  I find it very hard to believe that out of the millions of chess.com members, many many players have not already experienced this euphoric chess state before...

So this girl named Siduri likes to go around kissing people, am I right?

Unfortunately her kiss is extremely rare. Nevertheless, as a dedicated empiricist, I am willing to journey many long roads to find my way back to her sweet embrace...

Sparknotes' version is not the real Siduri, merely a later shadow of the original... You really have to go back to the original cuneiform Old Babylonian texts... The first literature ever written... over 4,000 years ago... To learn of the Siduri I speak of.  Wikipedia does a better job describing this original goddess of wisdom, alcohol and merry-making...

Don't forget what the OP said about running 6 miles.... this was also a factor contributing to his experience i think

"Recently, the results of a study conducted at the University of Arizona, which was published in April 2012, argues implicitly that endocannabinoids are, most likely, the causative agent in a runner's high"

It sounds like you're starting a Chess.com religion! You don't see that every day!

The English language is somewhat limited and our contemporary vocabulary may result, at least from me, in more religious-sounding language being used.  However, in my heart, I remain a dedicated scientist and philosopher, and strongly believe the path to enlightenment lies within the shared experiences and knowledge of my fellow man.  I'm not sure "religion" is the correct term as religion is essentially belief without evidence... While I am dedicated to finding an evidence-based path back to chess nirvana... Thus, I would prefer the term philosophy... or the Philos (love of) Sophos (knowledge)...

I wonder DrB about what was said a short while ago about running. More blood flow to the brain? I'm not sure if it was Smyslov or Botvinnik but I think one of them referred to exercising before games. You might want to look into that.

If you get 12 members drinking and following you on a path to the soul of chess, then you're getting pretty close to washing each other's feet and having supper together.

Siduris kiss ?...what drugs are you on?

Siduri's kiss sounds like a "Pauline conversion", a "Platonic experience" a "wow moment", a "lightning strike".

II had to google "Siduri's advice to Gilgamesh" to discover the meaning of this. Kinda cool, I suppose. But I think the other terms are far more common.
