Does blitz or rapid cause stress and stomach problems?

Try getting an education before you post.

I try NOT to play a game at least an hour before bedtime. Drills, lessons and games against the computer are  OK, but a human opponent injects something competitive into my psyche and gets me wired. I think it's normal, frankly.

wow.  this thread is being derailed very quickly.

probably cuz its often discussed here at the forums.  people have talked about stress, butterfly stomach, etc for years.

I experience this issue more, when time control is short.  thats why I do not play bullet chess.

After decades of tournament play i still get "butterflies" before a game.

you are not the only one OP

so, if you read many what common themes do you find?  anxiety, nervousness, worry, stress, anger, fearfulness, stomach ache, sleep problems...

you could feel that all this is proof that chess isn't fun even that its harmful.

I disagree completely.  when we play chess we face our fears- and a little "fight or flight" reaction is normal.

but the magic and the joy comes into taking something that is very stressful and difficult and becoming a master.

nothing difficult is easy the first time.   you will find a white belt anxious and nervous meeting a great karete master;  the first sky diving trip is very anxious, and how can forget a first date?  a job interview? the first day of college??

its life to meet new experiences and strive to overcome personal challenges.  chess reflects that reality.

btw, anytime you have a similar question or thought.  you can always brainstorm synonyms find old threads and "bump" them back into the forum.

Play music while playing, and sing along

thegreat_patzer

I totally listen to music when playing online chess- and some people do when playing OTB chess, too...

idk, maybe not too many people listen to music during OTB chess- I'm struggling to find pics.  in my own club/tourneys I don't see that.

but I'm not sure that it is forbidden either....

I know 1 guy that listens to music while playing.  Everyone else i know wont because they think it hurts there game.

thegreat_patzer

yeah stuzzi.

but couldn't you feel that way about anything?

there's nothing (or little) more mindless than Television and when chess  is too much ; my free time becomes very idle.... it grates on me.

how you, give up on dreams of chess improvement and walk away with a long rant on the chess.com forums is a mystery to me... and yet I see so many people do that.

(and half the time they come back)

You could, cautiously, use your stomach problems to disarm your opponent?
