Time Managment - learn how to take your time
#1
"My Problem is that i often find myself in 15/10min games winning/loosing with 10 or more mins on the clock on average." ++ When you lose a game with 10 min left on your clock, then you might have won if you had thought longer. Most chess games are essentially decided by move 30. Use all your time before move 30 and then finish at a pace of 10 s / move.
"There are games where i finish either victorios or beaten with more time on my clock than i started with." ++ To lose with more time on your clock than you started it is dumb. Time is a resource. Use it.
"Decision were made on intuition." ++ Intuition is good, but you need to take time to verify by calculation and to blunder check before you make your intended move. When you see a good move, look for a better one. To control impulsivity: sit on your hands.
"one thing thats hindering me to gain another 100-200 points (besides studying of course) is the fact that i do not go into deep thoughts when i should." ++ True: when you turn all your losses with useless time on your clock into wins, then you easily gain 200.
Hey there,
I would love to get some help with a thing thats bothering me for a longer time now: Time managment, or to be more precise: Taking the time i should take.
My Problem is that i often find myself in 15/10min games winning/loosing with 10 or more mins on the clock on average. There are games where i finish either victorios or beaten with more time on my clock than i started with.
This is a problem i have to deal with in real life too. I was always on "the fast lane" in life. Decision were made on intuition. I act fast in basic things: Even waiting 3 mins for my coffee is disturbing for me. This transfers to chess. I am currently at a fluctuating rating between 1500 and 1600 rapid and i want to improve and i think one thing thats hindering me to gain another 100-200 points (besides studying of course) is the fact that i do not go into deep thoughts when i should. It is a problem i have in general not in chess alone - taking my time. Does someone has an idea or an approach to learn how to take time in chess games when it is (obviously) necessary?
