Considering this post, in answer to your question of who will win the debate, my money is on ilikeflags.
We are not dark matter. Dark matter is something that replenishes the voids constantly left by our expanding universe. We may have dark matter, but it comes in almost undetectably small quantities since local gravitational forces easily overpower the tendency of everything to expand away from everything else.

In theory it may be possible, but I can't imagine the amount of money that would be required for such a journey.
Well, sure, the waffles on Mars will be more expensive to compensate for the cost of travel, but I imagine the land prices on Mars would keep housing prices low.
All it takes for colonization is for a Mars rover to drop one chocolate dipped waffle on the red soil, and watch the ranch houses & cyclone fences sprout up like mushrooms.

I think people tend to underestimate the role of pancakes when talking about the colonization of Mars. Now no one is saying that chocolate dipped waffles aren't (more or less) the key, but I'd like to see you try to colonise successfully without even 1 pancake. It wouldn't be possible.
