Very basic question. How do you choose black as your side? I am new to this site and when ever I try to play "live" chess, it makes me play white. I prefer black. how do you change?

If you play an unrated game, you can choose white or black.

If the game is rated, chess.com chooses for you randomly.

when you set the game up, go to 'custom settings' and you can put in stuff.

You have to play approximarely the same number of of both colours.

What happens if your opponent also prefers Black?
