FM is a master rank awarded by The Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE), also known as the World Chess Federation. You must join FIDE to become an FM. There is no minimum experience requirement to become a member and you can join through their website.[10] An FIDE membership costs 25€ (roughly $27) per year. There is also a premium membership available for 50€.
