live tournament , missing the point

Hi Chess.com,

I am really happy that you managed to create tournaments in live format.

I was thrilled when I heard about it.

However I believe that the whole experience that we mortals seek for when enlisting in the live tournaments , is not there.

I come to play the number of given rounds and then win or loose and fight and sweat.

I just played a tournament of 7 rounds where I happened to play 2 games and departing with a ''in your face'' alert

Trophies

I lost game 1 , I was free game 2 and I won game 3 and then it was over.

is that the kind of experience that we chesshooked dudes seek when enlisting for your tuornaments?

I am happy to see that the tournament feature has doubled the average ppl on live-chess.

but if you wanna keep it that way , you should make sure the tournaments are tournaments.

so I suggest to start  of with that you give a refund (extra tournament entry) if the tournament was less rounds then the given amount.

And then increase the entrys for non paying members so there will be a bigger amount of players during tournaments.

Looks more like a "gibberish in your face" alert...

thaskaiser

trying to reduce the effect of complain by some futile remark?

AndyClifton

Nope...merely suggesting (indirectly) that you look at your posts after you put them up to make sure they're readable.

thaskaiser

and then chess.com has the guts to send me live alerts

15|10 Standard Tournament starts at 20:55! Clickhere to join! You can also click on the Tournaments tab to see all upcoming tournaments and events.

if they want players for tournaments they should have some common sense

Agree with you totally, since as a non-paying user i only get two a week, having a nine round tournament cut to 4 really has an impact. :) good luck getting the higher-ups to change this!

piotr

We'll soon have longer tournaments - we are going to decrease rounds reduction based on the number of players. Cheers!

Hi piotr,

congrats with increasing the pool of life chess from scratch to 10 000Laughing.

I don't understand the round reducing method at all.

because as long you have 1 player more then the given amount of rounds , it is possible to stick to the original (and given) rounds.

what is the current ratio between players~rounds?

another note is the ''tie'' method that I have no clue how it works

thaskaiser

and what about entries for non-paying members?

DrawMaster

The tie-breaking method in Live is the same as in Online, as I understand it. It's a commonly used method in OTB tourneys, as well:

since they dont have enough players at any given time to go all 7 rounds why not increase Tourneys for non premium members?? I feel for you, who, dont have the cash for upgrade,, i never knew they limmited your live tourneys.

bulletheadbilly

I played the live tourney the other day, that, only went one round , due to server going down for maitenence. i was given a first round by (maybee cause my diamond). and I ended up in 3 way tie for first place without playing...the Mrdal looks Good, but does not feel all that good...

RoJac

Reducing rounds makes sense. I don't want to play 7 rounds just because there are 8 players if 4 rounds would be sufficient to determine the winner. You can always check the standings to see how many players have joined the tournament and quit if you find there are too few.

I would hope That while discussing the Likes, the dislikes, the Discrepancies, The Undue Favouritism toward premium players, and the live tourney being more fair toward all players involved, that no one (I mean No One), Raises up on my buddy THAS Kaiser, For I will take it Personal... have a good chess day.....
