NO SMOKING!

Sorry if I haven't been on the site as much. The no smoking lady at the VA said try to re-arrange your schudule. I'm trying to drum more, change my sleeping hrs, and stay off the site a little. I'm reading the book that was mentioned earlier, and I'll try a hypnosis session.

I used to smoke - started when I was about 13. I had quit a few times for various legnths of time. Since I was 14, the longest I have gone without smoking consecutively is about 2 years (over 40 now). I know what it's like to quit. For me it's really (really) hard - ususally. That's the thing about addiction - It doesn't treat everyone exactly the same, nor does is always treat any one person the same all of the time. All that to say: It can be harder for some people to quit than others.
I haven't smoked in about a year. But I'm cheating! I started vaping instead. Yes.. still addicted to nicotine, but no more smoke, tar, smell, butts, nor growing cancer risks, and perhaps one of the best parts - no more paying for a pack/day! The cost of vaping is about 10% of that of smoking. Also - you have complete control of the nicotine content - you can wean yourself. I'm not saying everyone should "vape" - but guys.. if you smoke and hate it, then switch to vaping. I see no reason why someone who wants to quit smoking would choose to go on smoking to get that nicotine fix. It sucks! vaping sucks way less - no matter how you dice it.

Good on you for quitting. That's so true about the "one you didn't smoke" One of the times that I quit - I was about 20 at the time - I was holding the last cig from an empty pack and said to myself, out of the blue, "I'm not smoking this" and I held on to it for several weeks. I would twirl it between my fingers whenever I thought ablout smoking it, and every day that I made it through, that wearing ratty-looking cig became more and more of a symbol to me. One day, several weeks later. I smoked it. It was stale as hell, but It was "awesome" - everything a smoker wants in a cig but never gets because the 1st cig is always REALLY good - but at that time, I thought about that and said to myself, "this one tasted/felt really good, but the next one won't be as good, and the 5000th one after those will be a sufferance - just like that one would have been if i had smoked it in the first place. I didn't smoke after that for a long time (maybe a year or a bit less).
I'm gonna lose to him because he's got a higher rating, and I screwed up, BUT. I was at the V.A. all day for numerous things and the No smoking lady said they started a weekly drop-in. The weekly will help. They had a monthly, but I need more re-inforcement than that.
