Please chess.com, change V3

New format is awful, super noisy & hard to find anything.  All the money you guys have spent & pre-move still covers up the piece... amazing.

Chess.com should seriously study other chess sites: there are some that are much, much, much more aesthetic & functional.  Only reason I'm back is to occasionally do my 5 tactics a day & try to get my blitz rating back above 2000.

Please note, I have removed the references to our competitor web site in your original post while trying to preserve the original meaning.

Unfortunately some things are always going to be a little subjective, and what some people find "aesthetic" others might find "spartan"; what some people find "functional", others may find "simplistic". We've had very positive feedback about the new version and it will eventually become the only version that is running, and we're keen to improve it as much as possible - have you reported your concerns with the pre-move using the "Report a bug" icon in the menu bar? It will capture a screen shot and you can enter text to describe the exact problem you are having.

We're very glad you finding some aspects of our site superior to our competitor's offerings, but please note that our policy is that we do not make explicit comparisons with our competitors in the forums that we own, host, and moderate.

Thanks!

Why on earth would you have a policy against users naming the sites they are comparing chess.com with?

It's giving our competitors free advertising.  Plus it has a tendency to degenerate into unhelpful arguments.

If it's just mentioned in passing or casually, that's fine, but explicit comparisons really belong on an independent site.

TheEinari

Censoring competing sites names sounds like chess.com has something to hide. If you are ''The #1 chess site'' like you say you are you should handle comparison with the other sites with ease. People might start to wonder are the other sites better since you can't even mention their names.

You're welcome to go and check out whatever sites you wish: we'll still be here and working on delivering improvements to our members' experience rather than worrying about what our competitors may or may not be doing now or in the future.

TheEinari

Although you worry enough to use censorship and ristrict your members freedom to express themselves and their oppinions.

Former_mod_david

You're more than welcome to share your opinions of what you like and don't like about our site - if you really want to discuss specific competitors, you can actually do so in the Debate+ club, just not in the public forums.

There is always going to be a spectrum of people from those who feel we restrict their expression too much to those who feel we let too much go. If you're unhappy with any specific instance of moderation - or, indeed, anything that you see in the forums at all - the best thing to do is to help everyone out by reporting it to the Support team either via the "Contact" button on the Help page (direct link is https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/emails/new) or by using the "Report a bug" functionality in V3 that I mentioned earlier.

Cheers!

Marvel executives never say DC either, but "Distinguished Competitors".

Perhaps chess.com should send a survey to PAYING members here---asking the PAYING members if they prefer v2 or v3.

$$$.$$

ok.

from one PAYING member.

I like v3.  I've switched.  there's only one small thing that you can do in v2 that is difficult to do in v3.

but if you haven't checked the v3 computer analysis your missing a very instructive tool.

Hopefully chess.com can take two steps forward after v3 being their only option.

whatadisaster

I find it hard to play on V3, though it's hard to say exactly why.

One obvious thing is that it took me five minutes to find how to resign!  That can't be right can it?

I am pleased with v2.

Why not keep both?

More choice is good for keeping members and getting new ones.

Because the site doesn't have the staff to support two code bases. Because v2 code is a mess, hard to update or fix bugs. Because anwering support questions during the development is already hard enough when trying to figure out what version someone is on tear.png

There are still changes going on to make v3 better and there will likely be additional changes and tweaks once it becomes the default and most people begin using it.

v2 will go away.

Pulpofeira

This is, how do you express it, a storm on a cup of tea? The only problem IMO has been both formats coexisting for so long. I prefer v2 now, but I'm sure I'll forget about it as soon as it disappears. I remember getting into euro currency as one of the most annoying things even happened to me, probably only second to meeting my mother-in-law. But I quickly forgot the old currency, despite of the fact they coexisted for two months, unlike what happened in civilized countries (the horror!)

Thanks!

It's not a bug so much as something that can be improved.

The reason I referenced the "other" site is because when you premove there the pieces don't cover each other, which is nice because you get to premove & still see the actual board position as it presently is.  If you play a game there & try premoving you'll see what I mean.

I don't mind chess.com changing the thread title.

Martin_Stahl

I don't play Live a ton but when I have used premove I haven't seen that symptom. What browser are you using?

not if you implement v3 you won't

Charlotte

or rather I won't. how can it take so long to implement? it's a great site as it is, and if you change it, it will be rubbish. i've had a look at v3 and once i thought i was stuck there. thank christ I wasn't
