In summary; all men over 18 should be required to provide proof of identity so that we know they're human beings and that they think twice.

What does this mean?

Well I think you already know my view on this.

I believe that anonymity on the Internet causes a lot of problems.  I also believe there would be a REAL benefit for not only showing a real user's name, but to uniquely identify every online user.   Users should not be able to hide behind an unidentifiable alias imo.

I haven't tried to but I could. Whats more you should defend mine and everyones right to do so. What is unfortuate is you don't seem to understand why. People should have a right to privacy. An inalienable right to it.

No one should have the right to read my mail (or email). I should have the right to express my opinion on subjects without fear of repurcussions to me or my family. Believe it or not there are governments that will imprison and/or punish you and/or your family for expressing your honest opinion on a subject. That is just plain cruel and unusual punishment.

Some governments, very possibly yours and/or mine included, will, do and would censor what sites you visit and what you are allowed to see on the internet. I am sure that you or others could come up with examples as to how this is not harmful but benificial. That is not the point. An adult should be allowed the right to choose what or what not he can "see". He should be allowed the oppurtunity to judge for his or herself what he or she views with their own eyes. Blacklisting sites takes this judgement away from an adult. It is comparable to removing books from the library because the government deems them innappropriate to be viewed by its' citizens. It is censorship. It is bookburning. It is attempted mind control. It is wrong.

Anonymity tools are available on the internet to protect people from prying eyes so they are protected from this type of injustice. I talk to people from China and Vietnam on occasion. You would be surprised how much their countries have in common with ours. And make no mistake, most of them love their country too. Sure anonymity on the internet has been abused. So has parenting. So has political offices. So has religion. So has freedom. That does not make these bad things by association.

I do not use anonymity tools as a rule. I have no need. But I was educated on their importance.  Check out the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Those are good people who care about others. People like you and me.

My apologize for the rant. I just felt my opinion on this was worth sharing here. Hopefully others might also, perhaps not. Either way I am ready for a game of chess, later.

I agree, this whole freedom thing is overrated. Let the bloated police state devour our rights and disposable funds!

Or would you prefer crazed vigilantes?

It's not privacy that is the issue, it is accountability.  Expressing your opinions is fine.  Being an online smaktard is not.

There should be a way for authorities to identify who posts what online.  I think the world would be better if web pages describing how to make bombs and how to [insert random crime] were terminated and action taken against those idiots who upload them.

Once we eliminate those who post about how to commit crimes, we'll move in on those who question whether we should have done it.

MsJean

Take my word for this. What ever system is made for privacy can and will be broken. The ITT peeps work all day updating programs to stop virus, malware, hackers from getting your info.

If they want to hide they will find a way. Teach yourselves and the kids to be safe. At least handles put everyone on a level playing field.

sry :(
