I've been enthusiastic about chess960 (a.k.a freestyle chess, Fischer random chess, Fischer chess) for years, and I think it will eventually become the standard for chess. In chess960, there are as many as 960 starting positions instead of just one, which says a lot.

I have written many articles about chess960 and collected a lot of data about it (up-to-date game database included). I’ll be happy to make productive use of these data by taking part in some promising chess960 project (relocation is not impossible).

The number of over-the-board chess960 events has been increasing slowly but surely all over the world since the end of the coronacrisis.

As regards orthodox (regular) chess a.k.a. the “starting position 518”, I’m not really interested anymore - except the endgames which are 99,9% identical to the ones in chess960.

Regrettably, I’m not going to play Freestyle Fridays anymore because Chess.com has just made Proctor software mandatory. I consider this as an unjustified violation of privacy; see my blog on this issue.

As a matter of fact, I think that the “play-from-home” chess events with considerable prize money are a dead end, despite all the hype about them. What I do look forward to is over-the-board and hybrid chess960 events, preferrably with slower time controls.
