FAQs about Group Chess Lessons

How does a group lesson work? All students join an online Zoom meeting and I teach on a virtual Chessboard using screen sharing.

Will the classes be lecture style where I just listen to you talk about Chess? Can't I do that on Youtube for free? The classes are very interactive with exercises/tasks and all students have the opportunity to ask me questions. And unlike Youtube, the lesson content is tailored to the specific needs of the students.

Why should I join group lessons? Aside from the significant cost savings as compared to private lessons, the big advantage of group lessons is that students are able to learn from each other in addition to the coach. A group creates a sense of healthy competition between students that promotes learning.

Are there any opportunities for me to learn on my own time? All students get weekly homework assignments so they can continue their learning outside the lessons. I also recommend additional resources like websites, videos and books for self-study based on the playing strength and interest of the students.

What if I can't make it to a lesson that I paid for? All group lessons are recorded and I send the recording to students so even if you could not attend a class or want to review a lesson again to take notes, you can do so at your own convenience.
