Knight or bishop
What's up guys im back for another blog today, today ill tell you the definitive awnser if you want to have a bishp or a knight in your position.
So the knight is better because its in my profile picture so its better.
Just kidding, that is not the actualy awnser, insteas lets look at this problem more into depth.
(btw ik the thumbnail is taken from google image i made one myself but it does not wanna work)
So, lets take a look at this position:
As you can see in this position, the knights cover more spaces because they have the ability to jump on other pieces, in this position both player pretty much want to relocate their knights in a better location to control more squares and set up outposts , while the bishops here are kinda useless while staring at a pawn.
Lets take a look at another position...
Here, the knights are still useful but the bishops control much more squares.
But what makes those 2 positions so different?
Well, the first position was a closed position, while having a lot of pawns on the board. The knights have the ability to jump over other pieces. So they can more easily take control over many squares compared to bishops which often stare at a brick wall and don't do much.
The second position is called an open position, there are way less pieces getting in the way of the bishops. Allowing to take more of the board than the knights can. They are also way faster to navigate than the knights in these types of terrain.
Conclusion:
The knight will be better in closed positions because of its ability to jump over pieces, while the bishop will perfom better in open positions.
Let me know if I have missed anithing.
