The 1200 is in different areas, not rapid, so it shows 700 something. 13 Best Moves, 1 Mistake, 1 Blunder ( I don't understand the blunder, it was 0.00) 83.0% accuracy

Called the cozio. Not much theory, although you do give up quite a bit of space in the early game.
Lately, I've been rushing through games and making stupid blunders as a result. Today I focused on taking my time and really seeing the board and I had a great game.

Does anybody recommend any lessons/videos/articles for a beginner like me? My rating is 400, but I haven't played in a while so it may be outdated (but I wouldn't say my rating is any higher than 700) I already know about the "guide" lessons so please don't say that, because I already know about them. Anything on websites other than chess.com is also helpful, as long as it's free and I don't need an account to access it Thank you!

Beautiful Game, a quite a few blunders (5), but it was a great game for me. I feel like I played like a 1200/1400. This ended on a timeout, but I won.
Checkmate in 20 moves. It wasn't a good game, 3 mistakes, 4 blunders, I had tunnel vision on a checkmate. I wouldn't have done this in an actual rated game, which is why I played this way. So I am not really looking for criticism other than maybe the opening if you would like too.

I am playing from black sidewith no blunders and no mistake

I looked to see if there was a thread I could place this question but I didn't see one that fit, so here it is. My question is two fold, first how much time should sub 1000 player spend on openings, second same thing for tactics. The reason I ask is that I feel that focusing completely on tactics, short changes me somehow, but at the same token, not focusing on tactics is also a handicap. And also what openings do you reccomend for white and black for sub 1000 if any?
ninjaswat Jul 6, 2021
If you were able to find it, Congrats, not an easy puzzle This is actually from one of my games which I found this and went on to win The first move is the hard one, the rest isn't as hard.

I mean Fabiano Caruana specializes in the Petrov and is in like the top 3 Elo's of all time- so maybe?

We see a lot of advanced openings, deep into theory. About a month ago, I started playing the bishop’s opening because i forgot the lines to the Vienna (hehehehe) Then, that morphed into what I found out was the “Italian game”, something I didn’t even know was a thing until @DaBabysBurner analyzed one of my games and said I liked playing the Italian game. I was like huh I guess I do Then, I found out you can play like 7 straight book moves in the Italian game and get a totally dominate center position like so: With a little positive thinking and manifestation, such games can turn into fun attacking positions like so: I mean, I wish I knew other, more impressive theory other than the Italian game but … is it the most OP opening a beginner could play? The positions you get from it are gnarly. I almost always get into a winning position from the Italian game, but of course I squander it and blunder a rook in the end game. But other than that, the opening is beyond solid. And I find it much easier to remember than advanced openings like the C-c-c-catalan or the Alzheimer’s/Alkehine I mean you can’t even spell half these opening names

I had a rapid game and blitz game where I struggled with my opening. What are some ways I can improve it when it goes beyond the moves I'm familiar with?
bankai2069 Jul 6, 2021
Given that the club is now growing at a dramatic pace and almost everyone is extremely active, here is the thread to display any grievances/complaints you have about the club, and to give your suggestions to improve it as well

Viznik, thanks for creating this club. Without you I wouldn’t have met fantastic people, such as, @KeSetoKaiba, @ninjaswat, @DaBabysBurner, @MLP8, @cricket7890 and others like stilldlust, etc. ! including you. ! P.S. Sorry for holding some arguments, I want to things to run smoothly and sound, because I saw some people in tourneys facing frickin 2000’s as a 1200. Lol thanks KeSetoKaiba, You helped the most so far, you helped me to get to 800 ELO. I can beat 800-1000’s comfortably in unrated now. DaBabysBurner, thanks for sticking around in the forums. We don’t play many games, but you give the best advice via. Forums. I listen to you the most in the forums. You are a prime example of beginners and masters. MLP8, this goes without saying, you help me practice my new learned openings. I.E. Scandinavian, Q.G., VS. the Caro-Kann, etc. cricket7890, Not even going to lie, I didn’t like you at first. I won’t tell you why but I still thank you for being a great member of the staff team. We are lucky to have you here. ninjaswat, You are my favorite person here, the perfect coach. Honestly, I could not ask for a better mentor. You are the best in the club at the Sicilian defense to be exact. You are the most underrated here. I appreciate you. p.s. Next tourney, I want to be matched against you. Secrets+Things about me People call me underrated, truth is, I feel like a 1200 player, or what you call a champion . I’m not going to tell you who I am, but I’ll tell you some hobbies . I do snare drumming (also Marching Band), and most importantly chess. I learn really fast, so that’s why I’m jumping quickly in ELO rating (I’m alt of parkerkorb). Well that’s it, @bestunknownplayer P.S., my FIDE master journey, starts here. But what master? Grandmaster.
im hilariously bored, strategies and tactics are great and all, but idk what to do. To get better, I have to play games and games and analyze and analyze. Im willing to do them, but not without something or somebody to enjoy it with. Thoughts?

Whoever played the cheater gets a bye for that round MrIndia, IkerCanchola, and KeSetoKaiba all get byes but still don't qualify for the top 3 positions With byes, Ninja and PawnPusher are tied for first They will play a match Whoever wins gets first, whoever loses gets second In third, Trophies and DarkAlpha are tied So whoever wins that match, claims third, whoever loses falls out of contention for prizes. This decision was made with all the participating admins VIZNIK EDIT: Thank you all for participating! I am muted for benign reasons, but what’s important is to note that the cheater had NO affect on the outcome of the tournament! After much discussion between the mods, we were able to allocate the points to those who played the cheater with a “bye”, which placed them in their respected positions. NOBODY fell out of the Top 3 due to these bye’s, meaning the cheater had no affect on who wins the prizes! I am truly truly sorry a cheater found his way into our tournament. Thankfully, it was just one and again he had zero affect on the outcome. proceeding: Trophies will play Dark Alpha in a 3 minute blitz playoff to determine 3rd place! THEN, NinjaSwat will play PawnPusher to determine First and Second Place

The grand tournament a few days ago was a great opportunity for players of all rating ranges to be able to showcase their skill and ability, and maybe even win a prize depending on their scores. The tournament saw much drama, upset, complexity and intensity in its games as the race for the #1 spot narrowed over the course of the 4 rounds. Round 1: @HighAwayKnight was able to hold his own for a great majority of the game but eventually succumbed to the pressure of the much higher rated @KeSetoKaiba An extremely unorthodox and imbalanced game saw @garbagem8 upset the higher rated opponent @TonyL103 A textbook attacking display from @Little_Guinea_Pig allowed him a great start to the tournament Sustained pressure from @Trophies100 allowed him to break through the stern defenses of the resilient @Chr0mePl8edSt0vePipe Round 2: A clean win from @Little_Guinea_Pig advanced him to the upper echelons of the tournament A relatively balanced game between @KeSetoKaiba and @Kadenstarr was won by the former, who ascended into the race for the top places An instructional game between @Viznik and @LearnGM, in which Viznik won, was able to lift the winner out of bottom table obscurity Round 3: @Little_Guinea_Pig was once again beaten by a lower rated player, this time the eventual frontrunner in @Ninjaswat Two of the highest rated players in @anhbao123 and @Trophies100 didn't get off to great starts, but one was able to recover some score in this intense game This explosive game between @MrIndia and @DARK_ALPHA_52 was a great summary of the event as a whole Tiebreaks: This clean game from @Trophies100 allowed him to claim third place overall in the tournament via tiebreak And now the penultimate game, winner takes all in this game between @Ninjaswat and @Pawnpusher515 The final results of the tournament (with byes) #1 @Ninjaswat (via Tiebreak win) Awarded diamond #2 @Pawnpusher515 Awarded platinum #3 @Trophies100 (Via Tiebreak win) Awarded gold #4 @DARK_ALPHA_52 #5 (5 way tie) @Batman2508 , @Cricket7890 , @Teiiaa , @Dovlet87 , @KeSetoKaiba Beginners and Masters thanks all participants who played in the Grand Tournament, and hopes you enjoyed the event. Many thanks to @KeSetoKaiba and @Little_Guinea_Pig, who did most of the analysis in this thread

Happy April Fools Day! April 1, 2025: “The ability to play chess is the sign of a gentlemen. The ability to play chess well is a sign of a wasted life.” -Paul Morphy, GM. (Do you think he stole this quote from his dad who shamed him into quitting chess?)
