This is for @B1ZMARK because he was astounded that my best win was only ten points higher than me

Oof finally I beat Li, the bot with rating 2000, but like somebody else said, it plays more like a 1600, but that's still nice xD I mean, it's only 1 crown, but that's cuz I kept on miss clicking, so I had to take back a lot of moves. For example, what's the point of checking white just to lose my queen to a pawn? Well here it is: Ha finally I play (i hope) a nice endgame, I like to clean up the pieces, it helps me think xD

On the road to 1100 blitz, I’ve won two games in a row to start the day to get to 1060 (nice) Wanted to share this game, mid-game I had an epic discovered attack on the queen by sacking the knight to put the king in check, winning the queen. The end game was frightening. My opponent was trying to flag me, and his king was in the corner protected by his only remaining rook. I had only 19 seconds left, and my opponent had almost a minute. I knew I would have to find mate to win. And I did! on to the next! I only have a few hours to play today so I gotta keep winning

I used to think they were just a cheap way of turtling up and avoiding an open game but they're just very sneaky, it's hard to realize the amount of pressure it actually creates

Is this actually a thing or is this a potentially new Englund Gambit declined strat? My opponent seemed to be VERY good and literally played the best move to prevent me from doing anything cool, BUT, in theory if: He doesn’t play c3, I get a free pawn + the center control ALSO; since the bishop is pinned by the queen, bringing knight out to f6 immediately then e4, baits white to take with bishop. If takes, take back with queen to e4, then Qg2, winning the rook, also. The only way white can stop this (as my opponent did) is 1. Not take the knight with bishop or 2. Ne2, opening space for the rook. However, if white takes ke4, and black takes Qe4, then black will still win a free pawn by Qg2, and also have queen on the back rank with little white development. Thoughts?

Um.. I randomely decided to play the bot called Li with a rating of 2000, I knew I would probably not win (ever heard of a 500 winning vs a 2000? not me!) but I thought it would be a good experience. So here is the game: (Again, it doesn't let me use my pgn if I annotate, idk why, I'm probably making some mistake [like not using brackets or something]) So I'll say the stuff here. And just in case ur wondering, I did use 4 takebacks and 1 hint or something, but I mean, it's Li, and Li is not as easy as Martin. Ok, let's begin. At move 13, idk why I didn't do cxd6, (or even cxb6, but I think the former one is slightly better) 65 ...Qc4+ ?? Right away I knew I had to take the queen. Only later I realized I shouldn't have. Yeah, it did say (in the analysis) that Qxc4+ is the best move, but then I would be stuck with a bishop and knight. I didn't think that it was bad because I knew that bishop+knight mate is possible, but I did not --absolutely not, or else I would not have done queen for queen-- know that bishop+knight is oh so hard. Nope, I'm not kidding, it's so hard that in the end, with move 119, I set up threefold repitition. Bam, draw. I hope the computer knew that "oh gosh this is getting so boring" and it wasn't just a coincidence. Yeah, I was setting up a bishop+knight mate, but in the YT video about it, the guy was using the light squared bishop and was getting the king to h8 while I was trying to get him to h1. It became so confusing. XD Well in the end, I'm proud of myself, cuz who knew that I could draw against Li. P.S. And don't challenge me if you have a rating of 2000. You know that without takebacks+hint I would not have won. Lol.

I see so many people in the "for beginners" or the "chess openings" sub forums always going on about the opening principles, the one I'm speaking of today is "castle your king as soon as possible!". I feel as if that just forces beginner players to think "oh, if I don't castle, I'll lose the game" and castle right into a checkmate or something. You don't always have to castle. Castling ≠ King Safety always. There are a lot of circumstances where playing ke2 or kf2 will do a better job of connecting your rooks and keeping your king safe than castling will (not That many but you should know when to do it). There are a lot of Advance Caro Kann positions like this, a lot of King's Indian positions, a lot of King's Gambit positions where you let them play qh4+ etc etc and you won't actually castle. Here's a game where kf2 was one of the best engine moves, and castling would have been a blunder Also I think I'm finally going to hit 1600 again soon

I beat a 2000+ rated player in rapid... bretty brazy!
Just took the 75 question ELO meter and they say my ELO is 1500+ (Upwards of 1700!) How accurate is it? Has anybody used it? It took me over 30 minutes to do the damn thing, now I have a headache. I have been told I play like a 1500 before, so 1500’s must REALLY suck or something.

Alekhines defense is seen as bad because it apparently "gives white too much control over the center". However, the chase variation (which is what people usually show me to prove their point), is pretty much toothless and causes black no problems because white's pawns are too far extended. The only real test is the modern variation, but Bent Larson's dxe5 and followed by a quick Nd7 is pretty good: "The idea is to win back the "tempo" on the white knight by forcing it back to f3". So now that we've got the introduction out of the way, lets see. The Alekhine's defense gives you a plethra of experience in all sorts of positions, which basically improves your overall chess ability. Here's the modern line: As you see, we have a caro-slav pawn structure in the resulting position, where black plays for either e5 or c5 pawn breaks, tries to exchange some pieces, then it becomes the art of "who uses their heavy pieces best" competition. Meanwhile, in some other junk lines, we have: Something akin to a french advance structure, a structure which allows for a lot of strategical play/maneuvering Other white players might try for broke with the chase, which is good to exercise some defensive skills -
Hi, I’m having a difficult time to convert my advantage through the middlegame, mostly due to blunders but also due to my inability to synchronize my attacking pieces. Thanks for the inputs

Little Guinea Pig was nice enough to play a few rapid games with me, which were all very informative and fun! It was nice to see that I held my own a lot better since last time we played, although, of course, in the end they showed me I have a long way to go! Still, it was very fun! In our third game, I played the fried liver attack. Little Guinea played a series of moves that they would inform me was known as the “Traxler Defense”, something I’ve heard of but never knew how to play. After watching them do it and not only successfully defend my fried liver attack, but also checkmate a few moves later, I was impressed and grateful of the lines I had just learned! so, thought I’d share here for all of the fellow beginners. At our level, you play a loooot of fried liver attacks. This is a great line to play against them, as odds are they won’t know what hit them!

Happy April Fools Day! April 1, 2025: “The ability to play chess is the sign of a gentlemen. The ability to play chess well is a sign of a wasted life.” -Paul Morphy, GM. (Do you think he stole this quote from his dad who shamed him into quitting chess?)
