I know I've made similar forums to this, but I'm still a bit confused. I normally play, Caro Kann against e4 and benoi or England Gambit for d4 but both ways don't work out we'll!!! What do you guys reccomend? (I know Sicilian is a popular one, but I don't really understand it)

All his pieces were really nicely developed, but was unable to defend the queen bishop battery + deflection.

On Saturday I played a 25|5 tournament. This game was from round two (if you guys want more I can give the other games). My opponent had been beaten by me in the past, in 25|5, by the alekhine. He played the exchange variation, but was unable to use a space advantage to his benefit and his weaknesses became all too apparent as my queen and knight invaded his position. (A similar case happened in the exchange alekhine in round five of this tournament - this time my queen and rook invaded to take second place!). So being a sensible person he decided to play the modern line, but of course, he enjoys his space, and is uncomfortable in a grind (otb I've seen him play opposite side castling French, and the nimzowitch Scandinavian so I know he's an opposite side castling attacker who's probably uncomfortable with a grind)... Here's our previous alekhine game if anyone cared:

B1ZMARK is muted so i'm posting this on behalf of him, it's his game, with his annotations.

70% of the things I annotated I saw during the game, 30% I saw after the game using Stockfish.

I want to be a master player like @B1ZMARK or KeSeto or Uncle Guinea, but I get on these streaks of tilting where I feel like I have nooo shot even sniffing their level. Then, I get on streaks where I play reallyyy good and think it’s just a matter of time until I get there. I just don’t know how to feel about all of it, my progress, my game and my future and reaching my goals. I really want to be a great, high rated player but I just don’t know if I can

For the record, I'm around 1500 currently. If you're under 1000 and you're excited that once you hit 1000 you're gonna be this really decent, intermediate player don't, because we're all still noobs Like look at this. how tf did I get 1500? and right before that game In conclusion, us 1500s are no different from you sub 1000s, we've just memorized more opening names, so don't be anxious about not gaining rating recently or something else like that idk, because in the end, we're all the same type of player until we hit like 1700 I could put so many more examples of both me AND my opponent doing stuff like this. The worst thing was that B1Z spectated both of these games and witnessed both of these blunders. no idea why he chose to spectate these games randomly at like 11:30 but whatever. This was very incoherent, I have no idea what my thesis is here.

The first few moves in the middlegame decided how things might turn out. 1) If a bishop is 2 squares away from a knight vertically or horizontally the you can limit the amount of squares the knight can move to depending on where it is. ( Sometimes the knight can be trapped with this method.) 2) Trade off( or Kick out) any outposted pieces as soon as possible. Now, for the second part of the checkmate tutorial: The first part of the tutorial is in the end of the game I analyzed. Be sure to practice this puzzle a few times to ingrain this in your memory. That's how I learned this variation. Enjoy! I hope you learned something.

During class my teacher said that we could take some leftover snacks from the AP exams, but to leave some for last block (period, class, whatever you want). But me, I'm saying, "screw fourth block, I'm taking snacks for myself" and got myself five bags of chips, a pringles can, an oreo packet, and a bottle of water and started looking for a rapid game while I ate. Of course I didn't feel like thinking or calculating, so I was paired against a calculating master and chose to play a very calm opening (haha levitsky) Feel free to ask questions about any move in the game, I didn't annotate by move. So if you have questions on why one move is better than the other or why I chose X move over Y move, just say something.
anyone want to play some unrated games so I don't lose rating
This is just some analysis of a master game to help me practice positional chess. I posted this here so that people can tell me why the moves I thought of aren't the best moves positionally.

One good game I played and one bad game I played (these were selected arbitrarily after looking at about a sample size of ten games). All of them were 10min games (these used to be blitz rated). (1) Never letting go - of the advantage, I mean My opponent plays the infamous Blackburne-shilling gambit, but because I suffered from an "I don't see free pawns before move 20" disease, I was able to obtain an easy advantage. From there, I weakened my opponent's kingside, but he tried to obtain counterplay through the g file. However, I used my pawns and cut off any possible reinforcements and was able to win pretty easily after that. Not much tactics were used - I missed most of the tactical wins available to me - just strategy. 1-0 (2) Steamrollered in my favorite opening After 1.e4 Nf6 (no prizes for guessing that I'd play this), my opponent played a seemingly-aggressive-but-actually-toothless line. However, to counteract this, black had to use his pawns and react energetically in the center - I failed to do so, allowed a pawn storm on the kingside, castled into it, pushed pawns uselessly on the queenside - no surprise that black lost pretty convincingly. 1-0 This is 1500 play lol

This checkmate was very satisfying to play because it testes my knowledge of weak squares. If I hadn't noticed that c7 is an outpost for my knight, then I would never had gotten this checkmate. ( Thanks @KeSetoKaiba!)

So I was playing against the bots (like I always do, since I have no friends.) All of them seemed as easy as I remember. Enter Martin. I played my king's pawn and he goes out on Nimouzchitz (I think) defense, I already know something's off, he never moves his knight early on. I move my light bishop, now his queen?
cricket7890 May 6, 2021
this came up in my daily game. it's still going on but i've already made my move which was Bg3 so i'm not cheating. I was thinking of sacrificing the f3 knight so i could get a check on the king, force it to move, and maybe start an attack on the king to gain some material or something. wasn't clear to me if sacrifice would be worth it so i just played Bg3, which looks like a pretty safe move.

They wanted me to analyze the games briefly, but they also wanted me to post it in this club so others could learn too. Here are the two games we played with some of my thoughts:

This came up in the club notes, so here is the clip I was talking about...

Happy April Fools Day! April 1, 2025: “The ability to play chess is the sign of a gentlemen. The ability to play chess well is a sign of a wasted life.” -Paul Morphy, GM. (Do you think he stole this quote from his dad who shamed him into quitting chess?)
