I recently started getting a "too many reloads" message in V3. And Chrome would lock up.Plus at the same time the fan on my laptop started making a lot of noise while being on chess.com.And constantly - CCleaner keeps indicating that Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer are active -and creating junk files even though I don't use them and have them disabled in Windows settings. So I tried an experiment.Renamed an Edge SystemApps folder as disabled.Went to Control Panel - Internet Options. Blocked all cookies in Internet Explorer.Maxxed the security on other tabs. Checked "do not save Encrypted". Set lots of things to disable. Cleared caches.Set CCleaner to skip the MFT free space area. To skip to wiping the free space on the hard drive. Results so far: Much less fan noise. So far.No Chrome locking up since then. Yet.No "too many reloads". Yet.Windows Update working a little better now when done manually.CCleaner completing its scans faster. Less junk appearing on its Analysis. And less heaviness of V3. V2 was never this "heavy".I suspect there's a whole bunch of junk files weighing down the server somehow. No I'm not a programmer - but why don't they let us delete that old "activity" stuff? And give us a scroll option to see everything we have tracked - including all tactics problems. So we can untrack a lot of things.

And ... wait for it ... ... ... ... ... ... ... no seriously, keep waiting ... ... ... ... in about 13 seconds, you will see something populate those widgets. How can anyone play LIVE chess on this site?
In v3, on both a new Windows 10 PC and an Android 7.0 phone, when I click on any menu item, the page will redirect to a page that has recently been displayed rather than the page of the link that I have clicked on. If I click on the menu item repeatedly, eventually it gets to the appropriate page. On the same Android phone, it seems to be impossible to scroll or resize within the 'Insert chess game or diagram' dialog box. Under the Chrome browser's Settings - Accessibility, I activated 'force enable zoom.' I can resize most chess.com pages by pinching to zoom, but once I get into the diagram dialog box, this no longer works. It appears that the dialog box has been coded to be of a fixed size, and to disable scrolling. On any of the browsers available on an Ipad 2 iOS 9.3.5 (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Dolphin), chess.com's Messages and chessboards are not displayed.
Hi, v2 club!   We've been working on streamlining the code for many pages on Chess.com and have finished several pages. We'd like to get some feedback on loading speed for some of these pages.    Below is a list of pages that have been rewritten paired with a page that has not been rewritten. We'd like you to take a moment and load both pages and give your impression of how quickly they loaded.    Please make sure you are NOT in beta for this test. (You can check here: https://www.chess.com/settings/beta)   https://www.chess.com/article/view/how-many-moves-can-you-see-ahead (New Code)vs https://www.chess.com/news/view/the-unique-reason-the-broken-now-fixed-chess-com-app-made-headlines-6918 (Old Code) https://www.chess.com/articles (New Code)vshttps://www.chess.com/news (Old Code) http://www.chess.com/learn-how-to-play-chess (New Code)vshttps://www.chess.com/play/apps (Old Code)   Also, please let us know how http://www.chess.com/home (New Code) loads for you as well.   Thank you!
From the managment point of view, has anyone any idea why some of the features of V2 could not be restored? Is it pride, obstinacy? That would be bad. Is it financial?. I could understand that. The site does want to make as good a profit as it can. Is it technical? Meaning V3 is incompatible completely and utterly with the way V2 operated. Has it something to do with Java? If so, what are the issues. Any answers?

Build 1803.Its an optional upgrade within Windows 10.I did it yesterday. Took a while. Solved some computer problems.Led to sfc /scannow (in elevated command prompt) working out. sfc was able to "repair corrupted files". Sound like Greek? What wasn't so Greek -was that after that - Staff told me to try Left Nav out for V3 Tactics Boards.(Menu on left.)That worked! I got a good max size Tactics board on V3 for a change! Is it that easy? Almost.Have to have Firefox browser at exactly 100% zoom it seems. And use the board's own resize button.Would it work on Chrome or Edge or other browsers? I don't know. And - good thing - the "collapse" button is back! That helps substantially with reducing the left menu. Less clutter. And that irksome little red "i" on the TV icon is gone again. Will it be back?I don't know yet.Uh oh! There it is back again. Even in Left Nav. Regarding turning off auto-updates on Windows 10-its not clear to me that that can be done completely. When I'm not wanting Windows updates to happen -I go into Settings and "set as metered connection". On. That seems to stop a lot of the updates.

This is a problem common to both v2 and v3. Sometimes I'll try send a message to someone I've never written to before. In v3, I click 'Send,' the green checkmark appears (perhaps signalling that the message has been sent), the message dialog box fades out, but when I check my Sent messages folder, the message is not there. I never hear from these people, so I assume that the message didn't go through. I used to try a second or even third time, but the same thing happens. It's as if the messages just disappear.

How does one abort a vote chess game in v3? In v2, there is a big button marked 'Abort.'

We are working to add it back. It was not intentional. Should be fixed later today. That said, it certainly WILL be going away soon. I would recommend you start to spend some time on V3 to get to know it better. Everything takes a little time, and then you get used to it. I've been through 4-5 major changes on my iphone. And with Windows. And with my favorite running shoes. And learning to drive on the left hand side of the road (you guys are nuts!). After a while, you just get used to it and cannot imagine how it used to be. That said, I know the process isn't easy or fun for everyone. But this is how software works. The YouTube, Facebook, Google and every major site of today is not the same as it once was. And when they change, everyone is mad and says it is a step backwards. And then in a few days they are used to it. I'm not trying to sound uncaring - I care a lot! I'm just being realistic. We've kept V2 around for a VERY long time to try to make every last person possible happy, and have made a lot of changes to make V3 more like V2 in many ways. The last hurdle is that V3 does not perform as well on older computers (especially the people still using Windows XP!). We are working on speeding it up for older CPUs. Once that happens, we will finally retire V2. Just like we did with V1 long ago. I'm sorry for those who are frustrated by this. I truly am.
In v3, when you are looking for a completed vote chess game, you go to the club's profile page, click Vote Chess, and then Completed Games. You are presented with a page that shows the final position for each game, the title of the game (e.g. Open Seek), and the number of players who joined. The opponent for each game is not listed on this overview page, so I guess the only way to find the game you are looking for is open each game. Instead of listing the number of players, wouldn't it be more helpful to list the opponent?

A few weeks back, players with daily ratings between for example 1275 and 1975 started appearing in lists (eg. in vote chess Members) as having a rating of 800. At that time, the lists would still be ordered in terms of their 1975 rating. Then a few days ago, the programmers seem to have reordered the lists, so now the player with a rating of 1975 appears down at the bottom of the list with a shown rating of 800. While it is nice to know that someone is working on this problem, instead of just reordering the lists so strong players are at the bottom, it might be better to correct the 800 rating bug.

I'm hearing reports that players who've been "kicked out" from their club continue to appear on the club's list of members in vote chess games, and can still cast votes. Is this a new bug? Does banning have any effect on such members?

Hi folks. Many things could and do cause poor performance - as in slow performance -and slow page-loading - on these chess.com websites. That's right. Websites. Plural. Some will try to maintain that its a technical "pagination" issue - of V3 specifically. But how could that be?Point: Some get good performance on V3. Most people get good V3 performance it seems. And some don't. Which is why that this couldn't be just a technical "pagination" issue.Even though that doesn't mean that V3 isn't at some fault on that. And V3 does run "heavy". No doubt about that.Is it possible that the site will totally solve the pagination and slow performance issues on its own?Unlikely. V3's been around for years. If it was easy - they would have done that already. But if the site solves V3 slowness on its own - including soon - that would be a pleasant surprise! And it is possible.Premise: Many are getting good performance on V3 - but some are getting poor performance.Logic: This means it isn't just V3 involved in the poor performance.Issue: Does this mean people's Windows versions - Browser choices and settings - and other choices they make or don't make about their computer systems - are "at fault" or "to blame"? Not exactly. But such factors are relevant to poor performance. Relevant - as opposed to "to blame".Idea: its three factors involved in poor V3 performance. Not one.Idea: If you don't believe that Windows 7 and Windows 10 run "heavy" -and you don't believe me that performance can be improved by making changes at your end -then try google search. You'll find lots of confirmation. Turning off useless things in Windows and uninstalling stuff you don't need - improves performance.Examples: The two major versions of Windows. Windows 7 and Windows 10. In Windows 10 - unless whatever member alters certain settings carefully - (easy to do quickly) -then many computers on the Internet can and will and do run - Windows Update off your computer! Instead of from the overloaded Windows Update website. Which will interfere with something called bandwidth on your computer. Would you want this happening while you're in the middle of a timed Chess Game??Now would a degrading of performance always happen? Not necessarily. Depends. But in horror - some Windows users are actually going back to Windows 7. Isn't that still the most popular version of Windows? I'll check the Net on that. But Windows 7 has its own horrendous Update issues too. Especially for those wanting to do clean Reinstalls of Windows 7.Apparently - that's one of the reasons Microsoft has offered Windows 10 as a free download.Issue: "Hey its the member's own business how their computer is set up and how its run!".That's right. But if good performance is preferred - then those two issues are both relevant. Is the site going to drop V3 features just to improve performance? Unlikely. Have they? No.Now there's lots of other Windows issues. And things that are easily and quickly corrected.I'll mention just one more for now. Please remember though - I'm not telling you to do these things.I'm not even recommending. Its a discussion. Could you "break something"? If you're concerned about that - then maybe you'll choose to leave everything alone. Its your choice what you do. I'm pointing out options - not what to do.Again in Windows 10: Background programs. In Windows 10 settings - it takes a few seconds to toggle all the background programs to OFF. Will one see immediate and drastic improvements in V3 performance - with just a couple of quick adjustments? Before answering that question:Do you want your computer running lame and crippled all the time??(your choice)Answer to the earlier question about background programs: it depends on to what degree performance is being affected - and how.And also - no improvements will ever be seen (probably) without being willing to at least restart the computer. If not shut it down completely. Maybe multiple times.(Edit Jan2018: For some things you might need both Restart and Shutdown - done separately. I discovered that recently.)And Windows Update cannot "take" unless the computer is restarted. Is this "superficial"? No. Why am I mentioning? Because some don't know and might prefer to make adjustments. Their choice. And yes - V3 runs "heavy". But Windows 7 and 10 run even "heavier". Much heavier. And these days - its looking like browsers are running heavy too. What do I mean by "heavy"?It means a lot of stuff on it - or too much.Moral: got to lighten up Windows and browsers ... or run slow. And ignoring this - and ignoring the fact that much can be done about adjusting Windows - and browsers - including very very easily ....well such ignoring has apparently prevented a lot of progress in improving performance on V3.And could be a main cause (among other main causes) -of improvements in V3 speed taking so long. Years! ...Which is "better" - Windows 7 or WIndows 10?Idea: If you're willing to use the extra Start Menu settings Windows 10 has introduced -and also to uninstall extra programs WIndows 10 has added - then 10 is probably better. But if not ... then 7 would be the "lesser evil".
