Hi folks. Many things could and do cause poor performance - as in slow performance -and slow page-loading - on these chess.com websites. That's right. Websites. Plural. Some will try to maintain that its a technical "pagination" issue - of V3 specifically. But how could that be?Point: Some get good performance on V3. Most people get good V3 performance it seems. And some don't. Which is why that this couldn't be just a technical "pagination" issue.Even though that doesn't mean that V3 isn't at some fault on that. And V3 does run "heavy". No doubt about that.Is it possible that the site will totally solve the pagination and slow performance issues on its own?Unlikely. V3's been around for years. If it was easy - they would have done that already. But if the site solves V3 slowness on its own - including soon - that would be a pleasant surprise! And it is possible.Premise: Many are getting good performance on V3 - but some are getting poor performance.Logic: This means it isn't just V3 involved in the poor performance.Issue: Does this mean people's Windows versions - Browser choices and settings - and other choices they make or don't make about their computer systems - are "at fault" or "to blame"? Not exactly. But such factors are relevant to poor performance. Relevant - as opposed to "to blame".Idea: its three factors involved in poor V3 performance. Not one.Idea: If you don't believe that Windows 7 and Windows 10 run "heavy" -and you don't believe me that performance can be improved by making changes at your end -then try google search. You'll find lots of confirmation. Turning off useless things in Windows and uninstalling stuff you don't need - improves performance.Examples: The two major versions of Windows. Windows 7 and Windows 10. In Windows 10 - unless whatever member alters certain settings carefully - (easy to do quickly) -then many computers on the Internet can and will and do run - Windows Update off your computer! Instead of from the overloaded Windows Update website. Which will interfere with something called bandwidth on your computer. Would you want this happening while you're in the middle of a timed Chess Game??Now would a degrading of performance always happen? Not necessarily. Depends. But in horror - some Windows users are actually going back to Windows 7. Isn't that still the most popular version of Windows? I'll check the Net on that. But Windows 7 has its own horrendous Update issues too. Especially for those wanting to do clean Reinstalls of Windows 7.Apparently - that's one of the reasons Microsoft has offered Windows 10 as a free download.Issue: "Hey its the member's own business how their computer is set up and how its run!".That's right. But if good performance is preferred - then those two issues are both relevant. Is the site going to drop V3 features just to improve performance? Unlikely. Have they? No.Now there's lots of other Windows issues. And things that are easily and quickly corrected.I'll mention just one more for now. Please remember though - I'm not telling you to do these things.I'm not even recommending. Its a discussion. Could you "break something"? If you're concerned about that - then maybe you'll choose to leave everything alone. Its your choice what you do. I'm pointing out options - not what to do.Again in Windows 10: Background programs. In Windows 10 settings - it takes a few seconds to toggle all the background programs to OFF. Will one see immediate and drastic improvements in V3 performance - with just a couple of quick adjustments? Before answering that question:Do you want your computer running lame and crippled all the time??(your choice)Answer to the earlier question about background programs: it depends on to what degree performance is being affected - and how.And also - no improvements will ever be seen (probably) without being willing to at least restart the computer. If not shut it down completely. Maybe multiple times.(Edit Jan2018: For some things you might need both Restart and Shutdown - done separately. I discovered that recently.)And Windows Update cannot "take" unless the computer is restarted. Is this "superficial"? No. Why am I mentioning? Because some don't know and might prefer to make adjustments. Their choice. And yes - V3 runs "heavy". But Windows 7 and 10 run even "heavier". Much heavier. And these days - its looking like browsers are running heavy too. What do I mean by "heavy"?It means a lot of stuff on it - or too much.Moral: got to lighten up Windows and browsers ... or run slow. And ignoring this - and ignoring the fact that much can be done about adjusting Windows - and browsers - including very very easily ....well such ignoring has apparently prevented a lot of progress in improving performance on V3.And could be a main cause (among other main causes) -of improvements in V3 speed taking so long. Years! ...Which is "better" - Windows 7 or WIndows 10?Idea: If you're willing to use the extra Start Menu settings Windows 10 has introduced -and also to uninstall extra programs WIndows 10 has added - then 10 is probably better. But if not ... then 7 would be the "lesser evil".

Try the next page... WTF? next page... Have these 51 new posts been deleted or did they ever exist?

This issue was raised a long time ago, then further raised directly with a staff member 3 months ago... When inserting a game into forum posts, when that game contain analysis lines, those lines of analysis get skewed out of their natural position. For example, this game played earlier today... The offset seems to happen in the insert game dialog. It happens throughout, but in the snip below i'll draw attention to black's 11th move, 11...axb6. The actual analysis on ChessBase gives 3 engines all saying axb6 as the strongest move, but for some reason when it is inserted those lines are replaced with others which simply don't belong.

In v2, on your home page, there is a panel with your list of groups on, it used to be listed in order of members those groups had. In v3 originally, this sorting was changed so that most recently visited clubs (no longer called groups) were shown at the top of the order. Recently, this ordering has changed too, there appears to be no discernible order for these to be sorted, they seem to be n a random order. In the past few days there seems to be some transfer of this ordering to forum posts. This page used to list the 3 most recent posts within each of the categories, but that doesn't seem to be the case any more. I started a new topic yesterday within the "Chess players" category, and still it is the 2nd most recent post within that category, but it has never appeared on the "this page" linked above. Many have complained that in v3 the forums (both general and within groups) have seen a marked reduction in activity. I happen to know that a lot of folks can't find the forums, but it also looks like the basic functioning of the forums doesn't work properly.

Hello I noticed that if you go to a profile page and you click on "Games" fast enough before the page has finished loading, it will only show current games, and game archive will never load. It was easier to reproduce in Firefox 57 but does also happen in Opera 49 I don't think this has been reported yet. Have a nice day
Hi everybody. The "Edit" button has now become visible for fixing the Topic name.If it was there - I missed it. Or maybe it wasn't there.

I'm having a hard time pinning this one down and deciding.   Spacebux Chungle GeneralChang gambit-man Each one has their specific angle.  Spacebux, you have been excoriating in rich detail, which I have actually appreciated. Many of your comments though have helped, so that may hurt your chances. However, you have maintained an aura of flabbergastedness which I truly admire.  Chungle, you have certainly expressed the most sheer disgust. I have also appreciated your feedback, including the 45 minute youtube video you created, which really did encourage me to make many changes. Still, the degree of horror that you have shown may tip the scales in your favor.  GeneralChang, you have been, by far, the most condescending. Additionally, I have been genuinely wowed by the conspiracy theories. Also in your favor is that I have not gotten to many specific comments, mostly just feelings. Your avatar does also help your cause.  Gambit-man, you have been the most disappointed of all. And maybe that's what has hurt the most. Your comments have been legitimate, and while I haven't always agreed, I have acted on many of them. The entire extension project was prompted by you (apparently it is also too resource-intensive for some machines...). Again, your sincerity has certainly given you gravitas in this contest.  Those are my thoughts anyway. Am I missing anyone? There are others who have been deeply saddened, critical, and upset. But I'm trying to find the ONE who really, really, really earns the title of "Greatest Opponent of V3". I will offer a prize for the winner.  What do you think?
...titled tuesday... click on "standings"... nothing happens...

I have seen several people commenting here about diminished club activity. I'd love to hear some thoughts on that. We have kept clubs in the navigation bar, and on your /home page. And the design of clubs is very similar as well. Are there any specific designs or workflow changes that you have seen between V2 and V3 that you think may be responsible? I'd love your feedback. Thanks!
why is it that, despite resizing my board to a more comfortable size, when i return to each Daily game it returns to full size?

1. I look at the list of Daily tournaments, there are currently 447 open for registration. I click on the "upcoming" bar through to the list. I scroll down and click on "more" 12 times over, the system doesn't allow for any more. At 20 tournament listings per page that's a total of 260 tournaments on the list. What happens with the other 187? Seems to me that unless you receive an invite it is not possible to view or join these tournaments... 2. From the list of open tournaments i filter for thematic tournaments C960 tournaments are also shown in this category. Is this really the way it was intended?

I saw this forum post - https://www.chess.com/forum/view/livechess/3-minutes-per-move-chess and had a look at the time control options... first thing i noticed was the number of clicks just to get to the custom option. click on "custom challenge", click on "3/2" to show more time controls, click on "more" to show yet more time controls, click on "custom" to set custom time controls... Then, the fields for custom controls show 3 and 2, as shown above. I presume those to be minutes for the first field and seconds for the second, based on 3+2 being the common blitz format these days. But it really isn't very clear at all. And i haven't tried to follow it through, but my guess is that you won't know whether you've set the challenge right until you have started your game. The two fields should ideally indicate whether they mean minutes or seconds, especially since (as i think they are) they represent two different units of time...
