This is the drawing: This is where it can move: It is a knight + king but can't move sideways. It moves like a knight, but can only use the areas one space away to it to capture, and doesn't move there when it captures. Tell me what you think!

Archer Combines knight and Wazir Drawing: Movement: It can only use the knight moves when there is a piece there and when it takes like a knight, it doesn't move. The only way to move it is diagonal or forwards.

Fire Away On every fifth move, you can choose to move any piece to any square of the board, regardless of whether it is empty or occupied. (Note:This also applies to kings as long as they dont go on a square attacked by enemy piece)

the main gimmick of this is the win conditions. to win as white/black you need to survive for 20 turns, after 20 turns whoever has the most pieces wins. green wins if they cannot make a legal move. (the grasshopper cannot be captured). the move order is white->black->green->green->repeat

Post from October: https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/vote-for-octobers-golden-variants Not sure on what some of the terms in this post mean? Have any other questions? See any typos? Feel free to ask and comment below! (Scroll down to the bold text if you want to know how to vote without reading my entire message ) Hello Custom Variants community! A few things I want to cover quickly: As we near the end of 2024, we're still working on ironing some logistics out, but Golden Variant arenas are still popular as ever! Thanks to all who have been playing the arenas and helping to popularize the featured variants afterwards as well.  Since the last GV post, we've grown almost another 1000 members! Hopefully that number continues to go up as variants gains more traction as a whole We currently have 20 variants under review, which is a bit more than what we want at a single time! Rest assured, we're working on it, and we want to make sure we carefully test the submissions.  Lastly, as a reminder, the last Platinum Variant of the year will be voted on for the next GV cycle; the 5 Golden Variants that had the most activity in their arenas from September to November will be included on the list of choices! Want to see what variants were featured in previous Golden Variant arenas? See the schedule here: https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/2024-golden-variant-schedule This month's format: Five arenas, starting in November at 5 PM PST on Fridays (12 AM UTC on Saturdays) Normal arenas will be 72 hours long, and special arenas for newly accepted variants will be 168 hours (1 week) long What you're voting for: Week 3 (November 15) will be a 72-hour arena of 3rd Place in the StrawPoll Week 4 (November 22) will be a 72-hour arena of 2nd Place in the StrawPoll Week 5 (November 29) will be a 72-hour arena of 1st in the StrawPoll (Week 1 and 2 of November have already been predetermined; Explosive Magic and Saturn's Rings are the most recently accepted NCVs and have not yet been featured in Golden Variant) The voting process: One StrawPoll, with 6 options Ranked-choice vote The 3 variants with the highest point value (calculated using StrawPoll's ranked-choice vote system) will be selected and scheduled as described above The poll will close on October 30 at 5 PM PT (October 31 at 12 AM UTC) Poll Link: https://strawpoll.com/NPgxe3z7MZ2 Happy voting!

What happened? Some months ago the Variants club had more members than the Custom Variants club (this club), but now the custom Variants club have more members than the Variants club (and the number of members of both clubs didn’t decreased), what happened?

this is not chaturanga.. this is shantraj aka the oldest version of chess we currently know rn… chaturanga looks just like this but with dababas… so change the name i guess?
I would like to acknowledge that I have no hate to the author nor I think chess.com shall not host a variant of this concept. I have 3 reasons for this.  1. The board size is simply too excessive. I knwo what people think: It'S xXl ChEsS!!!! It ShOuLd Be As BiG As It CaN!!!! But in a time period where a variant has to be ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for it to be accepted, the 14 by 14 board makes a lot of pieces in XXL Chess redundant. I would suggest a 12 by 12 board for the revamp. This makes moves feel like 4 developing moves and 1 attacking move and so on. I have played games before and it is literally a tradefest, and makes calculating rows and diagonals a chore to do Because of the modern standards, I think this should be revamped. 2. Because of this, some pieces are simply redundant. Take the knight as an example. In 4pc, a variant with the same board size as XXL Chess, the bishop is 5 points, whilst the knight being 3. But here, it's 2 player. Thus, the knight is close to useless. DO not even get me started on the camel. Insanely weak piece, I think it is as useless as the alfil in chaturanga. This makes most combat centered to long ranged pieces, and the guidelines of variant creation states that no piece should be redundant to the game, and I do not see a reason why that guideline is disobeyed.  3. It is simply not fun. Combining the factors of 1 and 2, you will not imagine a variant being fun. According to variants.world, NCV's should be balanced, fair, interesting, unique and of very good quality. This variant only follows 2 out of the 5 disciples in my eyes. (balanced and fair) My past play experiences has also proven it to be unfun. This may be more subjective. But I am a thousand times more willing to play something like Ends Meet then XXL Chess.  After all these complaints, it will be weird to not post a revamp I roughly think suits the concept and makes it better. This does not solve ALL the issues, but I strongly think a revamp of some sort should be done.

Can you believe that we're almost in the last quarter of 2024? Summer is almost over for those of you in the Northern Hemisphere too! Currently, we only have 4 variants left to review! All the while, the club has now reached over 3000 members, so thank you to everyone for your continued support! Our pace is increasing thanks to our NCV Testers, many of whom have been in their role for many months now. If you have any feedback for us, always feel free to DM me!  For those wondering, the plan is to have Platinum Variant every 3 months, so we'll see another one in December. How it'll be selected is still being decided, and any and all ideas are welcome! Thank you for reading and happy voting! Want to see what variants were featured in previous Golden Variant arenas? See the schedule here: https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/2024-golden-variant-schedule The format for this month's selection is as follows: The first week (September 6th) will be a 168-hour (1 week) arena of The Lake (the most recently accepted NCV). Idea for variant: 5x5 board, all corner squares missing. Knight spawns in the middle of the bottom of the board. Knights move normally, but can be checked/mated. You are allowed to move into check. First to capture opponent's knight wins. Any comments?

Oh my lord, ashtandrez is so good, it will probably in my top 3 extras. Oh yeah, good job martinaxo! Here are the reasons why Ashtandrez is so good.  1. It is not a solved game.  What I mean by a 'solved game' is variants with little strategy (sergeant's checkers) or variants that almost do not utilise fairies (cross derby, infiltration danger) or variants that are too simple (Villagers Chess). Ashtandrez is an unsolved game, a very unexplored one too, so who knows, you can find a decisive trap! 2. The piece placement This is one of the hardest things whem making a variant. Every piece, even if it is a weak one, has it's use in moth attack and defense, this also means no piece is redundant. There are also no duplicate pieces, which for some reason I love.  3. Relatance to Standard Chess. It is not another game like Thermopylkae, which I still love, but it isn't even close to standard either. Every orthodox piece is there, and some strategies are still included, and I think that achieves the point of variants VERY well.  4. It is just fun.  With every piece having it's own unique role, it just creates an atmosphere that is really enjoyable. No piece is dull or similar to another, and there is a perfect amount of planning and strategy. I have played almost every extra at least once, and no variants beat the fun of this variant before.  5. It is extremely well made.  Every gamerule, Every piece, Every turn has a use. If i had an year to make a single variant, I am unsure if I can beat Ashtandrez. This is hard to explain, but there is a feeling he took a lot of time into this variant.  In conclusion, I want this variant to get the attention it deserves.
