The Great thing about Gambits is that they mostly relieve the opposition's command of the all-important centre. As the side with the centre is the side with the advantage, I think that the Queen's Gambit is a decent example. (Please look at the variations) I think that for controlling the centre a great group to join would be Central Command. As a group we discuss ways to get the centre whether it be through an unknown variation or a main line. We are also active on the "Classical vs Hypermodern" debate.

Finnish grandmaster Heikki Westerinen is one of the most committed gambiteers of any player on the international circuit. He has essayed the King's Gambit in over 100 tournament games even against top GMs such as Michael Adams and Oleg Romanishin scoring 65%. He also plays a wide range of other gambits, from major openings such as the Queen's Gambit 1.d4 d5 2.c4, the Benko Gambit 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 b5, the King's Gambit 1.e4 e5 2.f4, Ruy Lopez Marshall Counter Gambit 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.0-0 Be7 6.Re1 b5 7.Bb3 0-0 8.c3 d5, the Scandinavian Marshall Gambit 1.e4 d5 2.ed Nf6, French Winawer Maroczy variation 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.Nge2, Caro-Kann Panov 1.e4 c6 2.c4 d5 3.cd cd 4.ed Nf6 right on down to more obscure gambits such as the Ruy Lopez Schliemann 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 f5, the Four Knights Belgrade 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.d4 ed 5.Nd5, Latvian Gambit 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 f5, the Albin Counter-gambit 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e5 and the Vienna Gambit 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.f4. Since the 1960's, Westerinen has been a major force in Finland's Olympic team competing in 18 consecutive Olympiads. The featured game is a miniature in the King's Bishop's Gambit Jaenisch variation, one of Westerinen's specialities. His opponent Tyni leaves his queen en prise only to fall for a desperado combination.

I know this is the Gambit Gang, but until I get my feet wet with all the sensational counterattacks that Black is offered, I am looking for two solid choices against the King's Gambit, from people who are experienced in the line. At the moment, I am wary of totally venturing the ...g5 lines, so here's my choices... Against 1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf 3. Nf3, I played ...d5 the other night and ended up swapping queens and having two bishops. I did well. Now, how about against 3. Bc4? Obviously, these are the two main lines I will see when I play against the KG...when I see the others, I will deal with them one at a time. I have a KG book, but you know how that goes...all kinds of lines, but I want someone's personal opinions on lines they like to use that are easy to handle...any advice?
Anyone play any interesting gambit games lately? Please post them up. I'm a bit bored and would love to go over some interesting positions. Thx! Boog.

What do you think of this crazy gambit? Personaly I`m still sckeptical
I'm throwing together an Elephant Gambit article and was wondering if anyone had any good games of theirs that they'd like for me to include in it. Thanks. Boog.
My and Boog's group needs to get up and running: http://www.chess.com/groups/view/unorthodox-openings I hate to advertise, but this is the only group I'm doing it in. The reason being that I know most gambits are actually considered "unorthodox," so really, most of you could join and it would make sense. I'm trying to start some vote chess matches for the time being, but besides that, if you play anything unorthodox that not justifiably a gambit, then this is a group for you as well. Thanks, Cam

I was researching UCO Gambits in response to the Orangutang (1.b4) and found the Wolferts Gambit. Its a fun gambit and I plan to use it in my blitz games very soon. There were only two games in the Chess.com database and here is one: After studying this gambit I immediately liked the fact that Black did nothing about the pawn en prise. This reminded me of the Mousetrap Gambit except the Mousetrap had one other aspect. The trapping of the Bishop with d4. As follows: This made we wonder if there was a way to use this in reverse for Black against 1.b4. This is what I came up with: I'm going to run some analysis on the computer with this line and see what comes up. My initial analysis looks decent. I like like lines like this in Blitz because it really throws off the opponent and they panic a bit when their Bishop gets trapped. What do you guys think? Does this line have any merit? Boog.

From our current Kings Gambit tournament with the King Gambit Players. Williams139 goes down a piece but sets in motion a decisive and forced mating net. Congrats!

Just wanted to tell everyone that my job has decided to block Chess.com. I still use it at home but will not be able to post as much as I like. I have a bunch of gambits to post up and will try to get them out as quickly as possible. If you have some interesting gambit games please post them up to showcase or for critique.I'll do my best to stay fully involved. Thanks for being a part of this great team! Boog.
Here is a game where I played a much higher rated player in the Ruy Lopez. I was able to prevail in this game due to a Knight Pawn Gambit at move 7. At this point in the game we were still in a main line, Does this Gambit have Merit? The ratings are those of Chessworld and not real life. At move 7 as a friend would say, my opponent is fitting me for a strait-jacket. He wants to seize the Initiative and the Center. I realize at this point I have a chance to grab the Initiative with a Gambit, since he lost a Tempo, setting up his power play. The best way to refute a Gambit is to accept it and my Opponent does. He didn't have much of a choice though, as declining the Gambit would have led to a Pawn Tsunami on his castled position! It is possible that my opponent just missed the proper defense, but I must say that I truly enjoyed playing this Game! ;-)

When I first started researching openings I loved the Hypermodern School. Honestly, I'm still very partial to them. The first games I studied extensively were withthe Reti Opening (1.Nf3) then I found the Reti Gambit 1.Nf3 d5 2.c4. I really enjoyed this opening. For some reason I can't find it under the Reti Gambit but the games belowe are called the Reti Declined. Don't yah hate it when they decline the gambit? Does anyone know if this is still a gambit or just a way to transpose into a Queens Gambit game? I think I'm gonna throw it back into my repertoire. All games below are from high level tournaments within the past few weeks. Despite them declining the gambit please enjoy.
