Andy Bak has posted a topic on Ihor's site. http://yorkshirechess.org/forums/topic/six-monthly-grading-lists/
Interesting competition on the Ilkley site, I am anonymous 2. Is my analysis sound? http://ilkleychess.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/may-competition.html
That's how long it took to decide that a topic was unsuitable on Ihor's site, I'm afraid that was nine days too long, and even then it would seem the only reason is to subvert the course of justice, we will see.
I have not played in the Bradford League for two years but still ex-Idle players persecute me. Every posting I make, on the YCA site, they have to disagree( to the extent of using idiotic arguments) but now Mathew Webb has really over-stepped the mark. Today I posted a topic( some may have seen it) entitled; Saint & Greavesie or Mo & Larry, with the comment; Follow this soon then a link to Woodseats. Mathew deleted and sent me an email. The reason for deletion Pete and Bill had objected?NO!! Mis-spelling Moe? NO!! It was SPAM! A kid from Lancashire posts 'you-tube' to advertise himself-FINE. An old man from Yorkshire posts a link to a site he is not involved with, because it is interesting and worthy of discussion, then what should we do? Who is the old man? Dennis! SPAM!!!!
On Ihor's site there is 'trouble in t'mill' Bradford style, where should it be discussed, here, or one of the Bradford sites chess, com. http://yorkshirechess.org/forums/topic/rules-integrity-and-difficult-decisions/
Havent had a game worth posting for some time but here goes:
Robatcbs May 3, 2012
A 10 minute game, I played yesterday, sadly my opponent did a 'corcor' after the second move.
If so, do you want to be in here! Hull up, Central up! Two no-hopers down, two new teams that with a little strenghthening may upset York and Sheffield! Peter Shaw has been playing top board for Wakefield, I'm sure he would get a high board for Central. Lancashire players could help, play for Calderdale survial, or Central glory? You pais. ure money and.........
It seems that Ilkley have won nearly everything in the BDCA. To protect the environment, why not have the presentation at Ben Rhydding?
Finally Chess is getting the attention it deserves with the EU parliament endorsing the Chess in Schools Declaration. This may see Chess being introduced as a discipline in schools all over EU countries! See article http://europechess.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=139:ecu&catid=2:slides Anyone for a job as a chess teacher? :) They'll need plenty of them although it's not going to happen any time soon.
I've not seen many games published on here recently, so maybe I'll get the ball rolling again... With 2 games left in the Bradford League Darkhorses visited division winners (already!) Ilkley B, in 2nd place and 3 points clear of the chasing teams (Leeds 175 & College Graduates). In the end Darkhorses lost 4-2; but as luck would have it, both Leeds and College lost - so promotion was ours anyway. With an under-strength side I ended up on board 3 facing P Ryan, who I blundered away at least a draw to earlier in the season - revenge was on the cards, but I certainly didn't start that way!
This is an add-on to Rules Bloody Rules(TWO PAGES? is this a novel)' Would it be possible to enter two teams Calderdale & Sheffield called Home and Away, thus either all games for one team are at home, the other away, or players are picked on venue. Thus two teams C&S A,C&S B, Calderdale players would then cover matches played at Brighouse(and probably Lindley) Sheffield would cover Wakefield and the Holme Valley.
This evening I visited my mother in hospital, after, I went to Clayton Lane, watched some football, then some chess, then some football. Then I had a chat with a YCA official, can't help feeling I was being played, but why? Could it be the committee share my opinion on the ECF's attitude? Seemingly the worry is tournament fees, I don't care, my worry is the effect on local leagues.
I have received an email from my captain regarding rule changes for the Calderdale League. Most Associations seem to have a statement that the point of the Association is to promote chess, though my own feeling is that when fancy rules are brought in it is competition first, chess second. Years ago I attended an AGM of the BDCA where it was decided that (for economic reasons ) the rule book would be changed on mass. This was unanimous, though a couple of us did not vote! In the last two or three years Bradford players and officials, have made statements, 'it used to be in the rules' thus using this excuse that they were acting in the interest of promoting chess. Sadly when rules were broken, they were in the favour of members belonging to the same club as an Executive member( making the ruling ). Back to Calderdale, I was of the opinion that the fixture list was drawn up to allow players to play in both divisions, a brilliant idea in my opinion (maybe Brighouse could get a second team). It seems to me that chess has been on the decline for a while(venues, etc) but do we really need to bring in rules to STOP playing. I think those associations who have such rules should consider emancipation.
Rose Forgrove B 3 Central 4. Players from two matches gather round, match cards shoved under my nose. I had had a walk-about, I did know the score AND I HAD OFFERED A DRAW. I had even said how I was going to draw. Rob had very little time left, thus I was tempted to go for a win on time, but team-mates wanted to go home, I thought(bunch of alcoholics).
Tonight I visited my mother in SLH, afterwards I called at Central Division on the off chance I could watch chess or football. Liverpool were good, but they weren't Avenue. I had the odd chat with Central players concerning playing for them till the end of the season. I told them, they were doomed! No the second team, to get them promotion. Morality, what morality? Last year in the Calderdale League, Todmordon A were relegated, Todmorden B were promoted, and the club goes from strength to strength. Central are not strong enough to hold a first division team, but in the interests of promoting chess, probably a strong team is needed(or will develop) in that area. With all this screaming about making rules for this and that, let's remember we want new players. I know we want competition to be fair, but let's not make too many rules. Should we put our suggestions on this site, and discuss.
There is a game on Ihor's site, this is the position where a draw was agreed, and one of the players has posted on the art of snore. Maybe we should have a competition to find the quickest way to find a win, in a game that lasted 80 odd moves. So much for the rain forest.
Many years ago, when Winston just got his job back, Phil was consoling Liz and a crystal set was a personal wireless( not a hairdo copied from an American girl group) my father would say 'think of a number', I would and then he made me do loads of calculations, the answer was always five. When I had my sixth birthday the questioning stopped( maybe I was innocent ). I have this season played for Calderdale in the Huddersfield League and feel that in some way I have travelled back in time. They have a handicap system I can't work out, but bloody hell- I don't half enjoy it! I never thought I would be five again.
Looking at chessnuts, I see I have played thirteen games for Calderdale. Tonight was a cup game, if the team didn't win what will happen to me?
Something is puzzling me. I have come across team scoreshets where the player order for a team does not follow player strenght (i.e. stronger player on board 1, second strongest player on board 2, etc) The league rules state the following: All players must be listed in order of known playing strength. Yorkshire grades used for reference. Why is it then I see teams fudging this rule? The usual excuse, "it's only a few grading points difference so it's OK". Here's an example, a certain team consistently plays a 125 graded player on board 1, and a 132 on board 2 (Yorkshire grades used from the start of the season). ChessNuts grades were, at the beginning of the season the same 125 and 132 respectively, but the 125 player has dropped to 113 and the 132 to 131 since the start of the season. My question is, should this team still be able to have the same board order, with their strongest player always on board 2? If not, what can be done about it?
