Ethical-Cheating or Chess players Cheat

its a good question and Im sure if it can be done someone will figure it out. Thanks for taking me seriously :)

Cheating in chess is part of a deranged modern psychology where a symbolic value replaces reality.  An elo rating is meant to express the strength of a chess player, so that they may play opponents of similar strength, but for some people this number, meaningless in itself, becomes the reason they play chess.  Such people must have a truly distorted view of the world.

I had a friend who had a chess board with a position displayed in his appartment. He didn't knew the game but he used it as part of the decoration to impress the ladies who visited his place. Imagine if he had a top rating at chess.com, icc or other.

That's hilarious!Laughing

(Imagine if one of said ladies actually played chess.Laughing)

This is true and the use of computers is really tempting for that reason. I love chess so much, terrible at it but love to play. Its really sad to see it in a poor light. Oh and Flags I call everyone Babe. u ill call grumpy...

I mean this is just like something straight out of a cheesy joke; Is there a word for it when you laugh and facepalm simultaneously?

If "ethical" is taken to mean morally right, then "ethical cheating" is an oxymoron.  Surely, the expectation (unless openly stated otherwise) is that a game is played against your opponent, with both players unaided.  It would certainly not be allowed for a player in an actual (rather than virtual) tournment to suddenly refer to an opening report, much less a chess engine!

The "ethical" issue, is to ask of oneself whether, in the case of those who use aids, whether this is the person you are (we are that which we habitually do; Aristotle) and significantly, whether this is the person you want to become?  An intergral aspect of justice is giving another their due, and your opponent / chess playing partner is due a fair game.  After all, Chess is not solataireLaughing
