Chess.com Feedback: Sort games list

Actually If you could get it to sort by Opponent Name AND date that would be amazing.  This is so my friend and I can keep track of the games we have played :D

This entire subject could by resolved by introducing a "Configure" command allowing you to arrange your archives in any order you choose. Perhaps you want old games arranged by ECO (that would be my own preference), or by number of moves, or by rating of player or by 1-0 vs 0-1 vs 1/2-1/2. All of these features are available in databases such as TWIC, which even allows sorting by name of tournament or date of game, or alphabetically by Black and White. Similar configuration options would be available for ongoing correspondence games. You line 'em up and then mow 'em down.

This discussion is mainly around current games - rather than archived games.

According to Erik, there can only be one list order ...

I fancied a short ( < 5 minutes) holiday without having the bother of applying for a passport.

sometimes it works fine, but sometimes it skpis some games, e.g. going from 5 hour to 8 hours,

Are you sure it's not YOU that is skipping the games?

Looking at the right-hand column (which represents the current games list as it is now), if you start by selecting game E, then Next game will take you to game F - not to game A.

If however you start at game A and keep pressing Next game, it should cycle through the games in the order in which they are displayed.

Kacparov

Sometimes it doesn't. I think I have posted a full explanation somewhere...

Kacparov

actually it was a problem with "go to next ready game". it also used to skip games

should we just do this by default then? show all games by time where it is your move and your opponent is online, then all games where it is your move and opponent offline, then all games where it is your opponent's turn to move?

That would work just fine for me, but apparently others have so many games in progress that it wouldn't work for them.  I'm also aware that unless I click "log out" the "online" indicator will still say I'm online for about a half hour after I've closed my browser, so not everyone who's online is really online (which would further complicate those who are playing a zillion games at once).  Oh well.  It was a thought.  I guess we'll keep it the way it is.  I've reduced my games in progress to the point that it won't bother me either way.  Glad to see a good discussion about the pros and cons of the idea tho.

I just don't want to be re-directed back to a game I've already viewed and have yet to decide what to do. Some games I have to sit down and concentrate on, and others I handle like emails (click, go). Sometimes I do not immediately have a move for a "sit down and concentrate" game and it would be nice if the site didn't redirect me back to that game at almost every instance of me going through my "email" games.

Would it be a tough query on the database to sort the games by game ID number?

I would like to go through my games starting with the highest ID number (opening stages) and gradually down to the lowest ID number (ending stages).  This will generally work for me because I play all my games at the same time control.  If sorting by game ID number is easy to do, then could it be offered as an option to the existing setup?

A better idea might to classify the games as to the opening first move and name, 1.e4 King's pawn opening, 1,c4 English etc. many site do this and way more advanced as they give the variation being played as well. I would be satisfied with the first move only as then I can review my games played and bring them up for review.

As you're probably aware, when using Game Explorer to review your completed games, it DOES sort them by opening.

Couldn't the sorting be done client-side, at negligible cost to the server?

Sounds encouraging. The Time Left column would have to use the custom sort key feature.

artfizz

Has anyone investigated client-side sorting (e.g. http://www.kryogenix.org/code/browser/sorttable/ ) yet ?

One downside is that it requires more work for EACH browser - and the headache of coping with browser updates.

I am new to this and not sure how to give my feedback. I like this chess program. But I still have a problem. To me, it is not all that obvious that my opponent has made a move. Often I wait and wait .. only to realize it is indeed my turn! In a 5 minute game, one does not have spare time to check the clock, so I strongly recomment a better/more noticeable way of letting a player know that his/her opponent made their move.

Pearl1312

I'd love to be able to sort my games by move strength so I can easily find games with either my greatest moves or biggest blunders so that I can more easily learn what I did right and what I did wrong.
