Hi all,
This is my first time posting on chess.com forums, but I just wanted to get a take on my most recent game, in my first tournament of the year. I would consider this loss one of promise, but without engines I can only see so much. I wonder how much time should be dedicated to analyzing one game, and how to classify the possibilities, and note ways to improve on what i discover upon hindsight. Any feedback is appreciated.

Best,

Euron

Just a few notes. Move 23 against Allen, taking on f6 is not good, you need to keep the bishop on b2, you can look at the line its a little complicated.  The principles are not too bad though, he gets a tempo getting the rook to f6, he trades off queens and removes the danger, and then wins a pawn back.

Also  28.Qxa7 is the best move, but its not easy after that, the position is a mess. But you are up three pawns, and his knight on a6 is terrible.  Somehow your king is safe.

Great job on the defense this game I would never have found those moves.  You outplayed an expert.

Black actually has a great position at 15 if he doesn't rush with f4.  For example, if 15. ...nc7 16. be2 now f4 is much better 16 ... f4 17. pxp g4 18. ng1 and now 18. ...ne6 is available which makes a huge difference.

In the mainline, 17. ... bf5 is good for black, e3 is again just rushing things.  19. ...nh5 looks like it would have been fine too.  19...qh5 is just a waste of a move at a bad time, and 22. ...bxe4 was an exceptionally poor move by someone feeling uncomfortable in the position.
