I'm with MJ on this one. It doesn't matter, I like both.
Black or White?

That is a good point, hiredgun. I have been forced to play white more with game invites but almost always lose those games because i know nothing about white openings or defenses, so i need to practice.

If you "rarely" play as White you obviously don't play in rated, over-the-board tournaments, since you will be given an equal number of Blacks and Whites!
If you really do prefer Black, then for the times when you are White, simply start the game with 1.a3. Then play the game as Black, and react as you normally would.

There is no question you should prefer White - in a foot race, would you rather have a half-step head start or give the other guy the head start?
But the difference isn't all that great. Over a long period of time, you will get slightly better results with White, but not dramatically so. In fact, nearly everyone who experiences more than the normal difference in results does so because they obsess about the colors.
It's a game. Just play - if you get Black this game, you'll get White next time. Don't worry about it.
Good point, and I'd just like to add that if you have an opening for both that you are COMFORTABLE with, you'll find that it really doesn't bother you to play either color!!

I'm not so sure about it, if this means you should enjoy any opening you know from either side. I like the nimzo-indian from black's point of view but not at all from white's. It's probably psychological, though.
As for the advantage of playing White, I feel it but it's very very slight, and I don't think it's worth more than a few FIDE Elo points (I mean that if player A with Elo n had to play with White a huge number of times against player B with Elo n+x, the x for which the match ends even shouldn't be more than 10). Of course I have no stats to support this guess.

You make a good point yourself!!! But I did mean from side you are playing on at the time. And actually the same happens to me as White. I love to play the Scotch as white, but it does kind of irk me when I'm playing as Black. However, even though I play the Center Counter as Black, when I'm playing as White it doesn't bother me at all because most people don't play it well and end up hanging the Queen, lol.

I have seen a article online that asked whether the first move is an advantage or a disadvantage or neither. the question has been debated for a long time and I think it still stands to this day:D
although statistically white wins slightly more. but I don't think statstics tell you much, it's like experimental probability:D
I seem to win more games as Black but probably because I'm used to that.

Your right i almost never go to any tournements. Thanks for the advice though about the move i will defiantly try that.

I prefer playing as black, but I wouldn't waste my chance at playing white by pretending I'm black.
I like white much better (at least in the level I play) because it means that I get to prepare the opening I've prepared for. I've played probably about 200 more games in my white openings (Veresov or Blackmar-Diemer) than I have with any black opening, because a) I practice it more against computors, chess club, etc. and b) I only have to concentrate on 1 opening, vs the various response of e4, d4, c4. . . . Also, my white openings are fairly rare to see . . . so while I'm playing my best opening, my opponent is usually playing one of his worst openings.
Everyone i talk to who knows anything about chess would rather play white than black, because apparently that One Move wins the game. I rarely play as white and am more accomplished with black. Anyone else feel this way about it?
