Is it safe to use your real name? Yes.
Is it smart to do so? Absolutely not.
P.S. @Trollhunter666, that post breaks TOS. Please do not swear.
Yikes Spud, I had no idea!
Yes, and that's why I scrubbed my profile statement of anything identifying, including changing my birthdate.
At one point my stalker posted a pic of me from the chess club and said he'd be waiting outside next Tuesday with a gun. I'm still alive years later, so obviously it was a bullshit threat to terrorize me. So, go ahead, give away one bit of useful information and see where it gets you.
please forgive me, spuddie. i was young and dumb.
(now i'm just older)
While netizens may not steal any property from those who use their real name, there are creepy ones who invade privacy.
The invasion of privacy is the worst. They start digging around and finding pictures of you, pictures of your boyfriend/girlfriend and saying they are going to contact them. They figure maybe where you work and they announce little hints about personal things that you didn't think anyone knew/cared about but the fact that these creeps can dig a little on line and start poking at you is more bother than I need in my life.

Jesus christ. I'm glad all it was was a bluff.

I didn't really take him all that seriously, since threatening someone on line is virtually cost-free both financially and legally. Besides, at least two people at the club, I'm convinced, are armed.
Some time later, he came back on the site and made apologies to me before disappearing from the site again. I'm hoping he's straightened out the rest of his life and we can all move on.

HA!
This reminds me of a radio talk show guy in Boston back in the 70s, David Brudnoy. When someone would call in and start venting and calling him names, there would be a pause and then he'd say, "Dad I told you not to call me here."
More like my name is ASS..,
Nobody threatened anybody with a gun at a Chess club... what a lot of nonsense?!

I'd agree with that.
