Stopping an abandoned game.

Hello all,

I just played a game of live chess, my first, and my opponent abandoned it after just a few moves.   My question is, can I end such a game without alteration (For the good or bad), to my rating?

I ask because I am not the strongest player, and I want every rise in my in my rating to come from a victory, the fact that I raised by over 150 points seems so very hollow under these circumstances!

This may be answered elsewhere, my apologies if it is, because I haven't found it...

Cheers, Chris.

No... you just have to wait it out.  Just think of it like part of the game.  Bobby doesn't show up at the board, Boris gets the win...

No. Everyone's record includes undeserved wins ... and unwarranted losses. Over the longer term, these are insignificant.

It is not even possible to nominate your Best Win as a meaningful win ... quotbest-winquot-should-not-include-no-move-timeout-wins.

(quotbest-winquot-statistic-system-is-flawed).

A noble attitude, chris. If everyone here would have this mentality, there would be less hassle. But if you play a little longer here, you'll find out, one or two games lost or won, it does not matter much. And you'll forget about them.

The first few games your rating will go up and down quickly, but it'll settle where you belong.

Have a nice time here!
