To be helpful, though each mod may have different reasons. Also, moderators generally just do moderation when they want, without any set schedule or assigned duties.

You need to be 18 or older.
I've gotten a couple emails from chess.com saying I could be a staff member of moderator for them. I'm not 18+ though...
