Not Enough Classical Time Controls

Sort:

Until the current pandemic, I played exclusively over the board, generally in multi-round tournaments with classical time controls, e.g., one game a week on Thursday nights, for 6 weeks.

Now, with over the board tournaments on hold, I find myself playing on-line.  But it seems that whether on chess.com or its competitors, Tournaments with classical time controls are Few and far between.  Almost everything is rapid, blitz or bullet.  I imagine they are popular because, amongst other reasons, you can have an entire tournament over the span of a few hours.  But it’s a very different game, and I much prefer classical controls.

Am I missing something?  Any suggestions?

The kids all prefer blitz and bullet.  I seem to remember some longer time controls way back when, but my memory being what it is...Luckily there is a solution; join a slow play club.  I'll give you the link to the most popular, but there are some smaller groups as well.  Have fun!
