Hi guys, today I am back with some advice on how to play the Caro-Kann. While blogs like @happy0natsu ('s) may teach you theory and tricks, sometimes you also need to know kinda what style to play it(Caro-Kann). So today I will be giving you advice on how to play the Caro-Kann.
1st thing you should know when playing the Caro-Kann is to never be greedy. While openings like the Fried Liver are greedy and push for the initiative, the Caro-Kann is solid and modest. Being greedy will often corrupt the whole point of the Caro-Kann. Take, for example, this diagram.
The 2nd thing you should know is that you should play to develop in every single Caro-Kann line. The Caro-Kann gives great pawn structure, but development is always a little bit cramped. But if you can get developed quickly, the Caro-Kann will be one of the best openings. That's why the Exchange Variation favors black.
The 3rd thing you should know is that you should not destroy your pawn structure with a pawn break unless you are sure it benefits your strategy, attack, etc. . Here is a diagram of what could go wrong with a potential e5 pawn break in the Exchange Variation(This is just a example, there are other pawn breaks in other lines, but those are mostly theory).
That's all for now, and thanks for reading!
