Bughouse Tips/Tricks: (Bughouse Part II)
Hi guys, I am back with another part in Tips/Tricks for Bughouse. So today I will teach you some tricks, as well as add to my original Tips for Bughouse.
1st up I am going to add to the original tips with more tips.
New Tip #1: The "Power Gap" between major pieces and minor pieces is now lessened. Rooks lose a lot of their power because bughouse games tend to be cramped by pieces lower than its value, so it can't really do anything except for defend the back rank. Queen's lose some power too because they can move like a rook, which is severely nerfed in bughouse. And minor pieces and pawns are strengthened.
NT #2: Just because people say knights are good doesn't mean bishops are bad in bughouse. A lot of people think knights are better, so they constantly trade their bishops for knights. But bishops can be just as powerful. They just might need some backup. For example, if you have a three bishop battery, that's literally a battering ram on the light or dark squares(which ever one the bishops are on). Bishops can be even stronger than knights at times because they can team up with other bishops to take down a certain type of square.
Now for the tricks or tips for tricks
(technically they're still tricks
).
1. There is a lot of tactical possibility in bughouse, you just have to spot it!
For example, look at this diagram. What kind of tactics do you spot?
There are some easy ones to spot, but that's just the first layer. Who knows what you could do with a pawn or a bishop to drop down?
2. Do NOT sacrifice material for a king and rook fork. As I have explained, it's not really worth trading a "minor" piece for a "major" piece in bughouse. The values are scrambled up.
In fact, I would make such a argument as to say that the queen's power is almost merely of a bishop, because moving like a rook is severely nerfed in bughouse.
That's all for now, and I hope you enjoyed reading!
