This forum post is for Chess Score Pad, an electronic chess scoresheet. It is a universal application for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Complete information can be found at chessscorepad.com. This application is not certified by the USCF for use in a tournament. Not being certified does not prohibit the tournament director for allowing it to be used to keep score of your game. I know it has been used in USCF rated tournaments that are typically small prize amounts and short time controls. I use it in my weekly G/30 quads. I have started a new application that I will submit to the USCF for certification. I am making a new app since it will need to be more restrictive and it would not be good to drastically change an existing app. For example, the new app will not have an option to have the app check for illegal moves since this is prohibited by the USCF. I hope that this forum will provide valuable feedback from other OTB chess players so we can have a certified iOS scoresheet. A good electronic scoresheet is easy to use and more accurate that using a paper scoresheet. So I believe that a lot more people will make use of their iOS devices as scoresheets if they are certified. I think that one big obstacle to certifying an iOS based electronic scoresheet is the concern that people will use the device to cheat. I am not a tournament director an I appreciate the hard work they do so we can have our tournaments, so I son’t want to make their jobs any more difficult. But I believe that if someone have a small computer (iPhone, Android or any of the many devices that can be used to analyze a game) and intend to cheat, they are more likely to conceal the small computer. Banning electronic scoresheets does not stop cheaters from bringing a device and concealing it. If players are using the small computers as scoresheets, the computers are out on the table. I will expand on this in a later post. Thanks, Roger Carey I am posting this per the “A note to all chess developers” post. “One of the ideas of this group is to help developer to promote their app, find beta tester, get feedback and everything that can help to chess on ipod touch and iphone.”
I'm a pretty avid chess player, and I also write software. I've put together a pretty nice FICS client for the iPad, and its available for download from iTunes. I have a limited number of freebie download codes that I will give out until they run out, send a PM if you want one.---If you have ever played a lot of games, especially with the same person, eventually you will get tired of playing the same openings over and over. That's what led me to discover Fischer Random chess, which in turn is what led me to discover the Free Internet Chess Server (freechess.org)The Free Internet Chess Server is one of the oldest and biggest chess servers online. There is never any shortage of games to watch or people to play against. At any given time there are hundreds of games going on, of people all over the world, playing chess.I like to play chess and I like to watch chess. Your Move is the FICS interface that I wanted to use but couldn't find on the iPad.The design of the board is based on the green and white tournament and club sets that we've all played on. The pieces are all original illustrations based on the old chess books we've all learned from. The clock is a simple digital display and the board itself and its highlights have a rich and subtle texture that you can play on for hours.Connect to FICS as a guest or create an account to track your game history and rating. Seek a new game with your own settings or browse the existing game searches in the "Sought" tab. If you don’t feel like playing, you can observe games in play by players of all skill levels from Novice to Grand Master.Use the Seek interface to tell the server what type of game you want to play and what skill level player you want to play against, or browse the list of published Seeks to find the game you’re looking for.Observe multiple games at once. While playing. Tap any game you want to watch from the list of games being played, and you will start observing it. Switch between games you are observing by swiping the board to the left or right. Alternately, you can unlock the board and allow the display to scroll to the last updated game. You can share your games by publishing them online.Keep track of the games you are playing and watching in the "My Games" tab. During a game you can click on any move in the "History" panel to view that move. You can also chat with other chess players in the FICS chat room.Play straight chess or variants such as Suicide chess (win by losing all your pieces) or Fischer Random (pieces are shuffled so every game is different.) And you can chat with people playing. My goal was to make a FICS client for the iPad that I could use and I hope you enjoy playing on it as much as I enjoyed making it. Feel free to stop by the support forums if you have any questions, Your Move is a labour of love and is going to be an actively supported product.red82 // softwarehttp://itunes.apple.com/us/app/your-move-for-ipad/id402381901?mt=8http://red82.com/your-move/http://red82.com
I will be going to a tournament in a couple of months and on my iPod I would like to share a folder that I have called "Chess Apps". Most of these are free and I would also like to see your feedback on them and if you know any good free apps that help in chess. Chronolite Chess Timer ( A really good and simple to use timer, I am going to use it in the tournament) Chess Face 3D chess ( Quite strange to get your head around at first but you get use to it) Chess Learn Chess Chess-Wise igame clock those are the 8 that I have found, and the chess.com app of course do you know any good free chess app's that can help you prepare for a tournament. (I have seen Fritz but in fear of my account being closed I am not going to down load it) Thanks
A new chess application for the iPhone has been released: Papaya Chess (link opens iTunes). The app is made by a company called PapayaMobile. I tried to grasp the concept of Papaya Mobile's main product, which seems to be some kind of social networking program, but couldn't quite get the hang of it from the descriptions on the site. Apparently PapayaMobile has created a series of games, one of them being Chess, that can in some way integrate with their social networking program. However, according to the app's description, one does not need to be a registered member of anything to enjoy playing with online opponents. If my understanding of the documentation is correct, you can also play against a friend that has PapayaChess on their iPhone in LAN mode. Price: FREE! If anyone tries it out, post your thoughts here please!

Have you tried it? If so, what do you think of it? If not, why? P.S. $9.99 for an iPhone app is like $99.99 for a boxed app. iTunes has me preconditioned to not want to pay more than a few dollars for anything.

I wish Monroi would make an iPhone app. I can’t imagine it would be very hard. The UI would look nicer, and I’m sure it could be priced well enough to make profit on just the app and not the hardware. Anybody else think $350 for a product that does nothing but chess notation is a bit ridiculous? Bearing in mind that there could be potential issues with iPhone/iPod apps and cheating, would you feel comfortable allowing your opponent to use an app on their iPhone/iPod? If so, what do you think the conditions of use should be (like not being allowed to remove the device from the table, must be run in airplane mode, etc)?

Hi chess players. We are finishing the final steps before our beta release. We have been working on a chess score sheet app for the ipad that is friendly for both player and tournament director. We believe we have solved this issue and welcome the chess.com family to join our beta test here http://chess-coach.net

Hi, I have various apps on my Ipad which are all excellent in their own way, however, at the moment if I download a pgn game it only allows me to open in the Chessbase app. I am wondering if there is a way to change the default to download to say TChesspro?, or any other app on the Ipad?. I realise I can can paste a game into another app but it would be good to know if I can use the "automatic" option. Thanks.
Sorry if this question has already been asked. I use safari on my iphone to play vote chess, etc. however the pages are not fully visible, as the right side of the page is cut off. In landscape mode it is better but not perfect. Shrinking (pinching) the screen doesn't do anything. I suspect this is because of the way the mobile site is displayed. Is there any way to view the desktop version of chess.com? Or is there another solution? Thanks!
Is anybody else going to be at WWDC 2012? If so, I'd love to meet up with some fellow chess developers and talk about iOS and maybe even play a little chess!
How do you remove finished games from the list of games on the iPhone app?

Hi, does anyone know if there are any chess training apps for the iPod Touch/iPad being developed? Software for training and learning endings, tactics, strategy etc. I've found that there a re some wonderful apps learning avail, but none for training elements of chess e.g. focusing on just endgames, tactics or postional concepts.
On the iOS app it would be nice to have the option to start a takeback game in addition to the existing rated and unrated options, similar to the way it works on the web site. Any chance of making that happen in a future release?
Are notifications for the Chess app working for you? Badges?.. Sounds?.. Anything?
I have had my new third generation iPad for a day now and the iPad app board is just gorgeous! I love plying on it! Now if only it manages to improve my playing and rating:-)

I recently encourntered some strange things while playing a live ten minute game on my iPad. Pieces started to disappear and the game notation indicated the moves as null. My board showed no correspondence with what was actually happening in the game. Has anyone else encountered this before? I might have to reset the app on my iPad so does anyone recall how this is done?

Hi there, Looking for insight from users who play a LARGE number of echess games at once, specifically related to related experience with the iOS app. Have you played over 50 games (over 100 games??) at once, and used the app with this many games going? If so, what was it like? To avoid memory/performance issues, we're thinking of introducing a cap, so that when you refresh your game list you would see only the "top" 25 or 50 games, sorted first by your time remaining to move. Cheers!
