After being equalised in the opening and completely shattered in the middlegame, I managed to first equalize and then swindle the endgame. Inspite of having so much time, 1800s are blundering mate in ones xD. Maybe time trouble brings out the better of me Also, colle system experts pls help in analyzing the game

Hi! It's the last person you would have expected to mention "classical". But due to my incredibly strong performance (read: bad) over the board recently, I have decided to play longer games on lichess, because dude nobody plays 30+0 here. Basically I will try to play at least 1 30+0 game each day, and then annotate it in a study. this: https://lichess.org/study/0lhn4FBo/YP5eLF3u but I will also post each of them here because we're chess.com mains Starting today. I played two games, because honestly 1500 ppl Here's the first game (working on second annotating)
Hes claiming hes GM Abimanyu Mishra @misha1chess Is he?

This was the game that got me to 1450 For all the higher rated players out there: how to you try to win positions like this where you are up a pawn or two and have the queen for 2 rooks, rook and bishop, rook and knight etc.? I'd really appreciate any comments on the game!

I'm studying openings with fianchettos on king-side. Here are the main things I've learned: The king's fianchetto is good because it defends the king. The g6 pawn controls important squares and the bishop is a defense against back-rank mate. The fianchetto's main drawback is that it takes up time, first to move the g-pawn, second fianchetto the bishop, third play d6 to control the dark squares and stop the white pawns from advancing. The main danger for the king's fianchetto is a protected e5 pawn (as black). For example: (this is the position my book shows and a position from one of the Garry Kasparov vs Gata Kamsky 1991 games. (Is there only one, or is there multiple games lol) Black's bishop is in terrible trouble as it cannot move anywhere. According to my book (The Fianchetto Solution by Emmanuel Neiman and Samy Shoker, for those who were wondering) "[the protected e5-pawn] controls the f6-square by preventing a defensive black knight from reaching it, allowing White to start a kingside attack with h4-h5." Any more info about the King's Fianchetto stuff, openings that feature the king's fianchetto, etc., will be appreciated

Am nervous for my first OTB tournament because castling OTB seems actually hard compared to just pressing the king and rook online. Any tips to remember how to properly castle long/short side?
Ever since I saw this position in a GothamChess video, I've been trying to get someone to fall for this. Today it finally happened in a daily game

We’ve decided to introduce weekly arenas to the club! Arenas will be tournaments hosted once a week on the same day, at the same time. Top 3 will get cool, custom Beginners & Masters trophies! In this thread, we try to accommodate everyone and figure out the absolute best time and day we can have these arenas that would let the maximum amount of people play in them! So comment the best time and date for you that you think you could make it on a weekly basis. For example, “Monday around 10am-1pm PST” etc Given the amount of international members we have, if time zones become an issue (I imagine they will be), we can do a US and “International” version of the tournament, once scheduled in the day time for people in the US, and another scheduled in the day time for people in Europe.

Plz.. why didn’t this work. What do Kf1? I’m so maaaad
Me and @tetrafishygm2 played a couple games of blitz yesterday (yes he beat me) but I found it interesting his dedication to analysis after a game. It was a good learning lesson for me to see how serious higher rated players take analysis. For example, check out this game we played: For me, I was instantly ready to play a rematch. But for tetra, he said “wait” because he wanted to review the analysis. I thought; sure, a few seconds to check blunders and see the accuracy score? No. He spent like 5-10+ reviewing this game… against a measly 1100 while he is 2000+. I had to pry him away from the analysis board because he was there for so long. It goes to show, there’s value in the analysis board and you can always learn something, no matter who you played and how you played. I just found it really remarkable and admirable tetra would take an unrated blitz game against an 1100 (me) and use it to gain insight and better his chess game!! Now I can see why he’s 2000+ A great learning lesson on the importance of analyzing your games every time, really.

This tournament was an absolutely fabulous experience, as even the lower rated players were able to find their own way and perform decently, while also accumulating great experience against higher rated opponents. At the same time, an intense race for the top positions was taking place. Some beautiful games were played, comebacks were initiated, and in the end, only two made it to the top positions. @icyboyyy vs @DaBabysBurner , 0 - 1 The first round of the tournament yielded an exciting game filled with tactics, counterplay, and intensity. @ricorat vs @Little_Guinea_Pig , 1 - 0 A surprising result clarified the title race and relegated the considered strongest player in the tournament into mid table obscurity @Viznik vs @stilldlust , 1 - 0 Previous conflicts between these two flared onto the chess board for a settlement of a rivalry @3point14159too vs @cricket7890 , 0 - 1 This game between an up and coming, exciting player and an experienced machine clarified the title race even more and created tension among the top places @Cricket7890 vs @DaBabysBurner , 1/2 - 1/2 A fairly balanced game caused the title race to intensify even more @Ricorat vs @Cricket7890 , 0 - 1 The penultimate game of the tournament, much can be resolved by the result of this game. After a clean win by me (hehe) vs 3point, the two title contenders host an exciting, tactical, and crazy game of chess ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Final Results of the tournament: Many thanks to all participants, and we hope to see you on July 3rd for the actual tournament

This is my first ever checkmate like this, it’s like a reverse bishop checkmate lol. But the question is; could it have came sooner? Did I waste valuable moves by trying to trap his queen? It seems to be after 15. O-O for black, it’s a force checkmate? But by messing around with his queen I actually let him get into a defendable position (that he just blundered)

So I was playing a rapid tournament otb which was 45 + 15 time control. I spent about 27 minutes to make this savage win on the board. Note: This was against my childhood chess bully who called me a 700 elo noob in 2nd grade.

10+0 rapid. My extreme positional style seems to have defanged my attacking play quite a bit.
I'd love some recommendations! Here are the books I've read in the past few months: Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess - Pretty much restricted to back-rank mates. A breezy read, quite simple. Chernev's Logical Chess Move By Move - This is quite great. Lessons learned: E4 is the best opening move ever, except maybe for d4! Force your opponents to move one of the pawns in front of the castled king! Control the C file with the queen's gambit! etc. Honestly I think I should re-read it at some point, not sure how much I've absorbed. Coakley's Winning Chess Strategy For Kids - Not for kids! A mix of strategy and tactics. Lots of things I've never heard about before (outposts, blockades, opposite color bishops, etc). A lot of it probably went over my head, but good book nonetheless. Silman's Complete Endgame Course - He told me to stop reading after the first chapter, so I did. The first chapter is good. Silman's How to Reassess Your Chess - I read the first part (endgames). The rest is quite obviously way too advanced for me. I think I need to assess my chess before I get to reassess it. Bain's Chess Tactics for Students - Pretty basic, the puzzles are relatively simple. Good for beginner beginners. Polgar's Chess Tactics for Champions - Currently reading it. The puzzles are definitely harder than Bain's. I get stuck on about 20% of them.

Happy April Fools Day! April 1, 2025: “The ability to play chess is the sign of a gentlemen. The ability to play chess well is a sign of a wasted life.” -Paul Morphy, GM. (Do you think he stole this quote from his dad who shamed him into quitting chess?)
